It’s easy to get here from the town via the state highway, and while you’re here if you prefer to get around by bike, there’s a route along the lake shore taking you directly into the center of Bacalar.
The taxi service is also highly efficient if you need it.
GET TO KNOW THE TOWN
We invite you to tour Bacalar , a small town with a great deal of history and surrounding natural beauty.
The Fort of San Felipe is located at the very heart of Bacalar. It is a great lookout with views over the lake and you can visit the museum inside, where you can find out about the pirates and buccaneers who came this way.
A few miles from the town you can visit delightful places such as the Cenote Azul, the Cenote Negro, Cenote Cocalitos and the Cenote Esmeralda , which are the sources of the lake’s water.
A bit further to the south are the so-called rapids ), a swimming spot located in the canal dividing the Bacalar lake from the Xul-Ha Cenote. The constant water flow has created a current which has shaped the walls of the canal, creating a geologically unique place which is home to stromatolites.
To the north of the town you can visit the Chacchoben archeological site , a Mayan city built in 200 BC.
At BoaBoa we will give you personal orientation so that you can go out and savour the culinary options, the fiestas and cultural activities of Bacalar , tailoring the options to make your stay unforgettable!
