About our home

Our home provides a large and comfortable family space, excellently located in the beautiful colonial city of Merida, just 20 minutes from the coast and 3 hours from Cancun. The house is a large 2 story newly built property with 3 well sized bedrooms, the master containing a full walk-in wardrobe, large en-suite and an extremely large balcony with garden furniture for those warm romantic evenings. 2 of the bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning, as is the large downstairs open-plan kitchen dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped and modern and we have a large BBQ for those nights when you feel like having dinner outside.

We have a brand new 2013 Peugeot 301 which is also available for your use if you so wish and a housekeeper that we can arrange to stop in and help keep the place tidy if you so desire, just let us know.

More about us

  1. We are Silvia and Josh, a couple with a small daughter of 5, Sofia. Silvia owns a couple of woman’s shops and runs a successful shoe manufacturing business throughout Yucatan. I own a British style pub along with teaching English as a second language on the side. We both love to travel as much and as often as we can, as well as new experiences, and are hoping to broaden our horizons one home swap at a time.

Where is it?

Our home is located within a tranquil and safe neighborhood in the North of the City, with a nice park close by and Merida's largest and most popular mall only 2 minutes away. The mall Altabrisa contains a massive supermarket which caters for lots of national and international tastes at great value, bowling, a cinema and fine restaurants. Yucatan is widely known as Mexico's safest state, with Merida having the lowest crime rate throughout the whole country.

As quoted by lonely planet 'Long popular with European travelers looking to go beyond the hub and bub of Quintana Roo’s resort towns, Mérida is not an ‘undiscovered Mexican gem’ like some of the tourist brochures claim. Simply put, it’s a tourist town, but a tourist town too big to feel like a tourist trap. And as the capital of Yucatán state, Mérida is also the cultural crossroads of the region.'

Merida's beautiful colonial downtown is a vibrant and enticing place to spend the evenings walking through the bustling streets and eating or drinking in one of the many bars and restaurants. Along with this Merida's famous Prolongacion which was based on Paris' Champs-Élysées contains a multitude of bars, restaurants and nightclubs for all tastes.

Outside Merida there are many activities to keep you occupied, such as the close-by beach town of Progreso with many watersports and seafood restaurants, the many haciendas which can occupy you for hours with their stunning gardens and the selection of cenotes (sinkholes) where you can enjoy a day swimming or diving in crystal clear waters.

Finally a trip to Mexico wouldn´t be complete without a trip to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 wonders of the world and only a 2 hour drive from Merida.
