About our home

We built our home in 2014 after living in the neighborhood since 2006. Our living space is all on one floor. The house is accessible to person using wheelchairs.

The house is built in a U-shape. The section linking the two legs is the open kitchen and dining area, The counters and island are granite. Our dining table is square and easily accommodates eight - or a few more. - The shape encourages conversation among everyone at the table. The ceiling is a barrel vault with exposed brick. We have a gas range and wall oven, large refrigerator/freezer and many smaller appliances, tableware, cookware.

One leg of the U, includes the living room, bedroom, walk-in closet and bath.

The Living Room has comfortable plush seating, a TV (hidden behind a sliding panel) and streaming programming via amazon firestick which also provides Netflix. We also have a cd sound system. The house is filled with art, much of it Judith's.

The bedroom has a new comfortable king size bed and lies beneath a domed "boveda" ceiling, a style of construction employed in a few regions in Mexico, borrowed from the south of Spain, which in turn was borrowed from north Africa.

We have a large walk-in closet with hanging rods, drawers and shelves. A similar long barrel vault ceiling covers the walk-in closet and our tiled bath with double sinks and shower.

In the second leg of the U lie Mark's office area and Judith's painting studio. This space is divided by 6 ft high bookcases facing both sections such that it serves as a partial wall.

We have 3 bathrooms on the main floor - one en suite and other two are half baths.

Throughout we have tiled floors in earth-tones. Every wall of the house that faces inward is glass and every wall of glass has a door that opens on to the garden.

Our patio and lush garden fill the center of the U. The garden has cacti, succulents and even some flowering tropical plants that thrive here.

The patio has a covering of translucent polycarbonate, allowing use even during light rains. We have a gas barbecue. In one corner of the garden we created a small pool, chest deep, for stretching and exercise. You can step directly from the bathroom or the master bedroom to the pool.

In addition to the living space on the main floor, there is a second bedroom and bath located beneath Judith's studio. Although it is below the ground level, this bedroom has natural daylight all day long from skylights and the stairway. The bedroom has a queen bed with comfortable mattress and a bathroom with shower.

We are located on a quiet residential street with views of the nearby hills as well as the city. This is a limited access street. There is only oneway in and out. This means that there is no through traffic and no cross traffic - pedestrian or vehicular. We have about 40 households and the mix is about 60 % Mexicano / 40 % ex-pat. We enjoy very cordial relations with our neighbors.

Your stay also includes light housekeeping with change of linens and cleaning of bath and floors two or three days a week..

More about us

  1. Judith and I met and married here in Mexico. We love living in this country, this city and our home.

  2. We love living in San Miguel de Allende. It offers us an continual stream of cultural events: the San Miguel Writers Conference, the finals in the nation-wide competition among young Mexican operatic singers, a locally produced Opera, a chamber music festival, soloists and ensembles presenting jazz, blues, Cuban music, theatrical productions, a Shakespeare play-reading group, poetry sharing groups, gallery openings that showcase local painters, sculptors, print makers, Mexican musicians displaying their exciting versions of latin jazz, a an annual film festival, religious and political observances ... and the list goes on.

  3. We built our home in 2014. It's a haven of spaciousness, light and comfort with an immediate connection with our lush garden. This is home to our two small dogs and two cats. We love it and our guests do also!
