Our cook and Maid, Juana, says that this is a "casa alegre" happy house "que tiene alma" that has lots of soul. It is our family house here in Mexico and we have filled it with only things we love. We live outside in the patio and garden, and watch the night creep in and the light of town come on from the roof terrace with a margarita in the evenings. One of our renters said, "You are so right that it is full of soul. Guests who arrived at night just gasped at the sight of the lanterns illuminating the courtyard..then we would take them up to the roofdeck to see that glorious unfolding of the night sky. It is wonderful the way every room has folk art and fabrics..very much a loved home, rather than a "rental".
We are Margaret and John, a married couple with two grown children. I am an architect and my Margaret is an interior designer and color consultant. We work primarily in San Antonio, TX, but also in San Miguel from time to time. I have designed and/or renovated approximately 12 houses here, this house being the first. We love to travel and to share our house here with old and new friends. We have exchanged houses only once for a loft in New York City in February and aside from the blizzard that February it was a great success. We became good friends with the woman with whom we exchanged houses so we are eager to try again. Since this is a second
house a simultaneous exchange is not necessary.
Our house is only 3 blocks to the central plaza or "jardin" as it is called in San Miguel. We are
4 blocks to main market and within easy walking
distance to anywhere in San Miguel. We are on a
quiet residental street but within 2 to 3 blocks
there are many restaurants, coffee bars, art and folk art galleries and lots of shopping. But there is a small neighborhod grocery for milk and other last minulte items within one block, as well as a tortilla shop and a bakery 2 blocks away.
