About our home

Our contemporary home is spacious and filled with sunlight on a quiet street. It is eight years old and was featured in the Wall Street Journal Mansion section in March of 2013. It won an award for the best designed house under 3000 square feet from Gentry Architectural Magazine. The master bedroom has a queen bed, master bathroom and lots of closet space. The casita has a queen bed, a bathroom and a kitchenette. The main kitchen is easy to work in. We eat inside in the dining area or outside in the courtyard. There are two courtyards downstairs and a terrace upstairs with beautiful plants so there are plenty of places to sit in the sun. We have a maid that comes on Mondays to clean the house. There is a nice view of the city from our roof terrace. We can walk 15 minutes into town or easily find one of 300 taxis or call an Uber. Our helpful friendly neighbors are Mexican to the right and Canadian and American to the left. We love our home and our city.

More about us

  1. I am an artist and my husband, Frank, is a retired teacher writing books about better teaching practices. We moved from Massachusetts to San Miguel in 2011. We fell in love with the architecture, the light, the art, the friendly people and the fact that we can walk everywhere. I have a large studio next to the house where I paint and draw. He has a study upstairs with his computer and books. We enjoy eating dinner out in the many restaurants with our friends. We go to two small movie theaters and often see good foreign films. He is in a writers group, a book group, a philosophy group and is a mentor to a college student. I am in a printmakers group and a painters group. We go to the organic farmer's market every Saturday morning. We attend the first Saturday of the month gallery openings.

We have many family members in New England so we would like to travel to the Boston or New York area every year. We would also like to travel to Europe.

The city of San Miguel de Allende is a World Heritage site voted by Condé Nast in 2013 and 2018 as the #1 tourist destination in the world. Travel and Leisure Magazine voted it #1 in the world to visit in 2017. It has been voted one of the top ten culinary destinations in the world by Forbes Magazine 2016. It is a beautifully preserved colonial town that has 23 spas, 47 boutiques, 41 jewelry stores, 13 shoe stores, 69 home decor stores, 50-plus art galleries and 200 plus restaurants. It is a walkable city that has many taxis and Uber, so it is easy to get around. On the edge of the city is a wonderful botanical garden and two hot spring spas. One can take a day tour out to the ancient ruin of Pyramid de la Cañada. San Miguel has numerous festivals and events such as Day of the Dead, La Calaca Festival, International Film festival, International Chamber Music series, and other art and music events. The variety of restaurants include Mexican, Italian, German, Thai, Chinese, French, Japanese, Yucatan, Argentinian, Fusion and Organic. Many of the restaurants have music at night ranging from jazz to blues to classical to Mexican. There are several small museums such as the Mask Museum and the Children's Museum. There are three golf courses and several horseback riding stables. San Miguel is a bilingual town where many of the Mexicans speak English and the American expats speak Spanish. The people are warm and friendly and so is the weather! If you want to extend your travel, Mexico City is three and a half hours away either by luxury bus or private tours and was voted by the NY Times as the #1 destination in the world to visit. Cancun is a short plane hop from Queretaro, a city 40 minutes south of here.
