Come and enjoy a little piece of Paradise!
The twined towns of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are clean, safe and so beautiful. Zihuatanejo is an ancient working fishing port and Ixtapa is the hotel zone. It is located about 3 hours drive north of Acupulco on the Mexican Riviera. Fresh fish is always available here right off the fishing boats.
Getting around on foot is very safe and easy. Local micro buses run every 15 minutes into town and are very cheap so you really don't need a vehicle.
Zihuatanejo is known for its deep-sea fishing, sailing and water sports. There are reefs nearby for diving and snorkelling and if your taste is more towards tennis and golf, there are courts and a world-class golf course nearby in Ixtapa (20 bus ride).
There is lots to do in the villages close by - more beaches, horseback riding, kayaking, ATV tours and taxis are cheap (around $5 or $6 to most destinations). Don't forget the shopping and all that beautiful, hand made one-of-a-kind silver jewellery.
I bought this place so that when I retire in 2 years time from my Canadian government job, I can spend my winters there. In the meantime, I try to get down there at least once a year. I have been coming to Zihua (as the locals call it) for 7 years and just love this little undiscovered jewel of a place. I always say that there are some places as nice as this but NO place that is nicer. But I also want to occasionally take trips to other areas that interest me without it costing me an arm and a leg for hotels.
I am English-speaking but also speak French and a bit of Spanish if that is an issue for you. Also, my property manager, Sarahi Cortez speaks very good English (as well as Spanish) and takes care of any repair issues or problems. All you have to do is call her on her cell phone.
