My house in Asilah is located in the old part (the so-called Medina) of Asilah, a village about 30 km away from Tanger in Morocco. I bought this charming house in 2004 as a holiday home because I immediately fell in love with the unique location - it is just next to the old fortress wall built when Asilah was a Portuguese colony. In July 2006, the complete renovation of the house was finished. The interior maintains the Moroccan style of decoration while adding a simple but modern kitchen and bathroom. The most spectacular feature of the house is the view from the living room and the balcony, which oversee the Atlantic Ocean. The sunsets are really wortwhile to enjoy (see pictures)!
When entering the house, there are two bedrooms (a master bedroom with one twin size bed and a second bedroom with three single beds) and the bathroom with shower. A stairway leads to the second floor containing the large living room with comfortable sofas, an open kitchen and the balcony. A ladder is connecting the balcony with the terrace. The house is maintained by a Moroccan friend, Abdulah, who makes sure that the house is in perfect order, clean and with fresh sheets and towels.
I am a young Madrid woman who enjoys traveling with my boyfriend or some friends. Actually I am open to travel anywhere in the world, so please don´t hesitate to contact me in case you are interested in Asilah. As the house in Asilah is a holiday home, non-simultaneous change is perfect for me.
Asilah is a beautiful, calm, clean and fascinating Moroccan village some 30 km (or half an hour in taxi) from Tanger, located directly at the Atlantic coast. Its Medina, or town center, is surrounded by a wall the Portuguese built several centuries ago, and is famous for its well conserved houses and labyrinth-like network of pintoresque small streets and paths. While Asilah attracts tourists from Morocco, Europe and overseas, it has kept its Moroccan charm. You will find children playing on the street, many Moroccan-style handcraft stores selling colorful carpets, lamps, and spices, and restaurants where you can eat ¨Tajin¨ or grilled fish. Every year in summer the town of Asilah organizes several cultural events, such as a painting ¨contest¨where artists from all over the world paint house walls with their own themes. It also has a beach directly next to the city and several more where you can go by car, cab or a ¨donkey taxi. So if you are looking for a calm, friendly place to enjoy the laid-back Moroccan life and perhaps buy some handcrafted pottery, cloths or other decoration, then Asilah is the perfect place to go.
