About our home

The house is a new build; built entirely of natural materials (mud & brick), so it's cool in summer and warm in winter. The house and garden are designed and built by two local French architects, and internationally renowned landscape gardeners Eric Ossart and Arno Maurières. The interior is designed by well-known interior designer François Gilles. It's fully staffed and very comfortable. The salons are done up in a traditional African style; the dining room is dominated by an old Moroccan tent lining fabric strip which hangs round the room. Both salons and dining room have large French windows which open directly onto the courtyard. The courtyard is wonderfully light, and the main house terrace is a sun-trap, with a cool shaded area, and all fully furnished with comfortable outside furniture. The studio terrace is used mainly by the staff, for hanging out washing and so-on. The house is equipped with a wireless internet connection.

More about us

  1. I am single, with girls now in their 20's so usually travel with friends these days. I recently sold my business (providing specialist insurance to the international contemporary art world) so now look forward to having more time to travel. I love the world of modern and contemporary art, and enjoy visiting museums and seeing local culture wherever I travel. I long to have time in my life to practise and improve my German, French and Italian, and to learn more languages .... particularly Arabic! I'd like to have more time to spend in different countries and cultures one day .....
I love to travel to new and different places, anything that offers the opportunity of an adventure, a new experience, a chance to learn about another culture.

Where is it?

Dar Louisa is a luxury Riad in the middle of the old walled town of Taroudant, which lies in the fertile Souss Valley, between the High Atlas and the Anti Atlas mountain ranges. It is situated one hour inland from Agadir.

Nearest airport is AGADIR - 50 minutes away.

There is so much to do in and around Taroudant, including of course, visits to the two Souks (Arab Souk and Berber Souk) full of artifacts and crafts, both new and old. Carpets, ceramics, lights & lanterns, oils, jewellery, furniture, metal work ..... and lots more.

The area is famous for argan oil which is used for luxury skin treatments or is a delicious cooking oil, dribbled on salads.

Local masseur comes to the house and offers relaxing massage after hammam; heaven!

Our fabulous cook will take you for a day trekking in the mountain, and magic up a delicious lunch for you cooked on open fire. And he will advise and help with any other local activities, of which there are many.

Buzzy restaurants
The main square is full of activity and lots of restaurants
Retail therapy
The 2 souks are full of irresistible treats - carpets, pottery from Fez and Safi,, wood boxes and bowls and carvings from Essaouira, lanterns and lights, honey, argan oil, jewellery - and lots more
Day tripping
Atlas Mountains for a day's trek, or the beach - both about an hour in the car
