“We had a fantastic holiday in Dar Louisa. The house is beautiful and the food is delicious. The children loved the little pool. We went on a few excursions which were all great and easily organised (walk in the oasis, small mountain trek, visit of the souks...). We also enjoyed simply sitting on one of the beautiful terraces playing games, drinking mint tea and listening to birds singing. It was a new kind of home exchange for us since the house is staffed so we simply had to pay for food, cooking and excursions (plus the tips). This meant no work at all and all our time used to relax and enjoy! We highly recommend this house, it is a unique and memorable experience!”
Louise's reviewsAs a host (5)
“The three of us stayed here for a few nights. It was by no means enough. The house is wonderful and the rooms spacious and very clean. The rooftop views were a highlight as was the peaceful courtyard. The food was excellent and we were surprised by Abdul's magical creations each and every night. A true Gem. Thank You so much!”
“Earlier this year my husband and I travelled to Morocco from New Zealand for a three week holiday. I had decided that I would try to find a home exchange while we were there to enable us to become more familiar with one particular region. I wasn't really expecting success as there were very few listings for the areas that we were interested in. I was very excited when I received a reply from Louise who was happy to do a non-simultaneous exchange. Dar Louisa was the perfect retreat for us after having spent five days roughing it in the Atlas Mountains. Tucked away, down a series of narrow streets, it was only a short stroll into the centre. Every day as we walked to the souk we were greeted by friendly locals going about their daily chores. Dar Louisa itself is a beautiful home built around a central courtyard and swimming pool. The decor is tasteful..(actually, absolutely gorgeous), and I would have been quite happy to have stayed for a month. Louise employs a chef, and we honestly enjoyed the most divine food during our stay (we paid for the food to be bought at the market, and we didn't eat anywhere else during our entire stay!). I can highly recommend undertaking a home exchange with Louise. Go and enjoy a special part of Morocco!”
“November 2011 my husband and I spent 2 weeks at Dar Louisa, this exchange had been arranged in a short time and I found Louise to be a delight to communicate with. Louise had arranged a driver for us from the Agadir airport to Taroudant, at first we wondered where he was taking us but found a fabulous surprise was hidden behind the walls in Dar Louisa. Abdililah and Fatima were there to greet us with a pot of mint tea and from there the next two weeks became a holiday to remember. I jokingly said it was the closest to a health retreat I would ever get. Abdililah and Fatima made us so welcome it was hard to leave, they did our cooking and cleaning everyday and always had a smile and a friendly word. We ate Moroccan delights and never had to buy food outside except when we hired a car and toured the area but we took Abdililah and Fatima with us and found them to be excellent tour guides as well and what fun we all had. Taroudant is off the beaten tourist track so we got to experience the real Morocco with real Moroccan people, we rode bicycles everyday all over Taroudant and were a familiar sight to the locals, some waving to us and shouting out "Australia hello". Dar Louisa, in itself is a real treasure, something for Louise to be very proud of, there was nothing more we could have asked for. We were extremely comfortable and made to feel extremely comfortable, I rate Dar Louisa as 10 out of 10.”
“Louise is a wonderful host and did everything in her power to ensure we had a great time. And her staff are just great people, providing consummate cooking and interesting tours. The riad itself is breathtakingly beautiful, a cool oasis in the middle of the heat and dust of the town. Interesting furnishings, great books, great music. And you have the town to yourself - almost no other tourists, just easy-going, friendly locals. We kept on pinching ourselves to see if it was all real. Excellent! Highly recommended.”
Where is it?
Dar Louisa is a luxury Riad in the middle of the old walled town of Taroudant, which lies in the fertile Souss Valley, between the High Atlas and the Anti Atlas mountain ranges. It is situated one hour inland from Agadir.
Have a look at www.dar-louisa.com
Nearest airport is AGADIR - 50 minutes away.
There is so much to do in and around Taroudant, including of course, visits to the two Souks (Arab Souk and Berber Souk) full of artifacts and crafts, both new and old. Carpets, ceramics, lights & lanterns, oils, jewellery, furniture, metal work ..... and lots more.
The area is famous for argan oil which is used for luxury skin treatments or is a delicious cooking oil, dribbled on salads.
Local masseur comes to the house and offers relaxing massage after hammam; heaven!
Our fabulous cook will take you for a day trekking in the mountain, and magic up a delicious lunch for you cooked on open fire. And he will advise and help with any other local activities, of which there are many.
