Our wonderful 17th century town house is situated in a quiet leafy street (pedestrians only) right in the historic city centre of Amsterdam. Everything you would need or want is within walking distance: Central Station (500m), Hermitage museum, Rembrandt house, farmers' market, shopping areas, OR are only a short bike ride away: Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw, Vondelpark, summer festivals etcetera.
Children will love Artis Zoo, Nemo Science Museum and the underground playground Tunfun. There is also a secluded open air play ground nearby.
We are looking for a swap in the summer of 2013 for two or three weeks, anywhere (Australia would probably be too far for our two girls).
Ground floor (85sqm): living room with lounge and play area, kitchen with dining area, utility with shower, wc, washing machine, dryer and access to roof terrace (35 sqm) with dining area, lounge corner and many pots with herbs and strawberries (not very suitable to play or bbq).
First floor (50 sqm): large bedroom with king size bed, small en suite bathroom with bath, toilet and washbasin. We will use the study on this floor as a stow-away.
Second floor (30 sqm): two single bedrooms, toilet and washbasin.
Basement (85 sqm): by summer 2013 we will have renovated the biggest part of this floor as a playroom and lounge area.
Transportation: we go everywhere by bike and public transport. Of course we can help you with car rental and grocery delivery.
Last but not least: our house is a bit quirky. Amsterdam was built on wooden poles, so the floors in our house are not level (not so much to make you seasick though). In the 17th century bathrooms (wc, shower, bath) were not planned for, so they are usually small and in odd places. We renovated the living room, hallway, staircases, shower and wc in 2010. The basement will be a playroom / lounge area / guest room by summer 2013. The kitchen, roof terrace, bedrooms and en suite are all just fine and fully functional. We have plans however to make them even more beautiful and practical.
