About our home

Our 1900 home was totally renewed in 2007. It has an amazing view over the famous Amstel river of Amsterdam, one of Europe's nicest cities. Our home of about 140 square meters (on 2 levels) is part of the so called 'Villa Vanitas', in which are situated 6 more apartments. The house has it's own front door. The main floor, is one big space with an open kitchen. Downstairs are three rooms and a luxurious bathroom. One rooms has a queensize bed for a couple, in the other room (which we normally use as an 'office' and guestroom) we can put an extra bed. This is suitable for one adult or one (maybe two) smaller kids. There is a third small room used as 'washing and storage room'.

The city district 'Weesperzijde strook' is these days one of the city's most popular ones. It is situated around a 15 min. walk (or 5 minute travel by subway) to the Rembrandt Square in the city center. The museum quarter with the famous paintings of Rembrandt, van Gogh and others is about 15 min. by bike. In very close distance are a few of the best restaurant's in town, like very cozy pubs and fine terraces. The closest place is a nice tapas bar, just on the corner of our block, other closeby popular places are the Volkshotel (2 min. walk) or 'de ijsbreker' (4 min. walk).

People who like sports can enjoy themselves as well; in front of our house is one of the most popular running tracks of the city and you can row or sub on the river. Seeing something of the county side is easy; just take a bike and follow the river Amstel, within 15 minutes you will see the first windmill. To the closest beach it's about 10 min. by subway and than less than half an hour by train, or about 45 min. by car.

We are sure you will love Amsterdam and our home as much as we do!

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
Very closeby (walking distance) are several very nice restaurants like the Ijsbreker, La strada, Loetje, BAUT, Rijsel, La Rive and Dauphine. The rest of the city has everything to offer when it comes to food, from Japanese to Italian and from Mexican till Vietnamese
Cool bars
In the city Center are plenty of cool bars. Closeby you fin de Ijsbreker, BAUT en TROUW. Other areas to check are the 'Regulierdwarsstraat', 'de Pijp' and 'de Jordaan'.
Cozy cafés
Cafe Hesp at 400 meter walking distance is one of the oldest traditional Cafe's in town. It has a nice terrace, just 200 m eters away is a nice Tapas bar of the same owner. The Ijsbreker just 300 meters on the other side has one of the best terraces of the city alos at the River Amstel.
Retail therapy
The '9 straatjes' area offers nice boutique shops. 'De leidsestraat' has evrything to offer and the best department store in town is 'de Bijenkorf'.
Bit of culture
Amsterdam has so mucch to offer culturally, too much to write her. But definitely see the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and also the 'Stedelijk museum' (modern art) has a very well known collection. Only at a 10 min. walk you find a dependance of the Hermitage with great exhibitions as well. For the rest there is so much to see, check it out!
Walks in the park
The closest park is the 'Oosterpark' about a 500 m walk. Of course the famous Vondelpark is nice to check out as well. A not so well know juwel is the Amstelpark just 10 min. by bike.
Spot of exercise
'De Weesperzijde' is one of the best and most used running spots, run besides the river, cross a bridge and run back on the other side of the river. It's also possible to row and sub on the river Amstel and of course taking a bike a go around like all Dutch do!
Day tripping
It's possible to be on the beach within an hour by train (Zanvoort) or any other beach by car, like Noordwijk which is also very good. For people how like nature, take a hike in the beautiful dunes you find at several places along the coast, but probably the best place to go is Bergen.is
