About our home

We live in an one story apartment alongside one of the Amsterdam canals (an UNESCO World Heritage Site). The house was originally built in 1625, completely rebuilt in 1750 and thoroughly renovated in 1975.

It is a listed national monument and located in the very center of Amsterdam on a premium location.

The apartment with beamed ceilings throughout is 85 sq mtrs (950 sq ft), has a large living room, one bedroom, one bathroom, a separate toilet and a kitchen.

The bedroom offers a king size bed, the kitchen is nothing fancy but has everything you need on a vacation and the living room features classic furniture and antiques, a flatscreen TV and WiFi.

The bathroom has no washer/dryer as there is a laundromat around the corner.

Our apartment is on the second floor and comes with a lift.

The living room offers a lovely view of an Amsterdam canal, a domed monumental church from 1625 facing us and views with houseboats, waterfowl and old historic houses from the 17th/18th century.

It is the perfect home-base for visitors to enjoy and explore Amsterdam and Holland all year round.

Although it is in the center of town, at the same time it is very quiet as there is not much traffic and away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowds .

Shops, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets are just around the corner and museums, shopping centers, parks, art galleries and theaters are within walking distance or within easy reach of a tram or a bicycle ride. You can rent bicycles or scooters anywhere. Also boats can be hired.

A car is not necessary. Actually you better do without as parking in Amsterdam center is very difficult and very expensive.

The neighborhood is a quiet residential area full with historic monuments, scenic streets and squares and trendy shops. It has a village-like character.

For excursions further afield, the Central train and bus station is only a 10 minutes walk.

The coast with great beaches is a 30 minutes by train. The train station there is right on the boulevard.

An added bonus is that London and Paris are just an hour's flight away from us. Paris can also be reached by high speed train in less than 4 hours.. So this can be done as a long weekend trip.
It is only 15 minutes by train to the airport and the train station is around the corner.
