About our home

***We are currently looking for a swap or a stay for points between October 19 and October 27 in southern Europe!!***

Our home displays our characters. It is filled with artifacts from previous trips and homes. We have a collection of butterflies, paintings, art prints and little knick knacks that are on display everywhere through the house.
The house is newly built 10 years ago and recently refurbished by us; we are the second owners. It is spacious, very light and modern with a vintage touch.

Our house is situated in Amsterdam North, close to the more and more popular NDSM area. The area is more industrial looking than the old centre of Amsterdam, therefore it is often compared to Brooklyn, NY.
While staying in our house you can use our bicycles to go to the ferry, the bike ride will take you a little over 5 minutes and the ferry ride to the central station will take 12 minutes.
It is also possible to rent bicycles at the NDSM or do everything by public transport, but we really recommend cycling. Not only because it's fun but also the most common way to get around in Amsterdam!

About the house itself:
The living room of 45m2 has an open kitchen with american oak wooden cabinets and a marble top. In the separate hallway you will find the first toilet of 3 in total.
The sliding doors open to the garden with a dining area, a lounge area and a shed for tools and our bicycles. (the garden faces south, south-west)

The first floor is fully fitted with oak wooden floors, 2 bedrooms, the first bathroom with bath, shower and a toilet and a small office space. The master bedroom of 25m2 has a double bed with orthopedic mattresses. The second bedroom has a normal single size bed. (on the picture there is still a children's bed)

The second floor also has oak wooden floors, 2 large bedrooms with a single bed each. The second bathroom has a toilet and a luxurious shower cabin fitted with several massage shower heads.
There is also a separate laundry room on the second floor.

We have two lovely cats, Spinner and Luna, and they are best friends with the goldfish Nemo and Jan.

Neighbourhood

Our house is situated in Amsterdam North, close to the more and more popular NDSM area. The area is more industrial looking than the old centre of Amsterdam, therefore it is often compared to Brooklyn, NY.

You can use our bicycles to go to the ferry, the bike ride will take you a little over 5 minutes and the ferry ride to the central station will take 12 minutes.
It is also possible to rent bicycles at the NDSM or do everything by public transport, but we really recommend cycling.

The NDSM-Wharf is a former dock (from 1894 till 1979) where big and small ships were built and repaired. Nowadays, this area is a place where artists and other creative people do their thing.

There are several nice restaurants in the NDSM area with terraces facing the Ij river.

Our neighborhood is very friendly and safe. Children can play on the street and ride their bikes. We are friendly with most of our nearby neighbors and their children.

There is a supermarket at the end of our street for your groceries and if you pass by the supermarket and take a stroll further to the north you end up on the dyke and you will feel like you enter a more rural area.

The nature reserve Het Twiske is close by. Long stretches of grass and water and hundreds of different kinds of birds. You can ride your bike all the way through it and have a picnic.

Buzzy restaurants
Since Amsterdam North is the coolest place to be, there are a lot of great places to eat and drink and hang out. We will provide you with a list and a map of our personal favorites when you come and stay at our house!
Bit of culture
On the north side of Amsterdam you can visit the Eye film museum and of course, if you cross the water you have the famous Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank House close by. From the central station it is 15 minutes by bike or tram.
