“We've spent some wonderful days in Amsterdam. Suzanne's house is located in a very quiet and comfortable neighborhood. It is bright and perfect for a family. Our kids enjoyed the surroundings and the city of Amsterdam and of course the company of cats Lena and Spinner, they are going to miss them too much. We won’t forget that week in North Amsterdam. Suzanne was a great hostess and we had great communication with her. She is very kind and polite. ”
Suzanne's reviewsAs a host (2)
“The house was very clean and tidy, and it was a pleasure to communicate with Suzanne as she was very organised and spoke excellent English (like all Dutch people). Initially we found the 20 minute walk to and from the ferry a struggle, as we arrived in the midst of a heatwave. But once the weather cooled and we hired two children's bikes (from a place next to the ferry), and borrowed two of the family's adult bikes, this made a huge difference. If we timed it carefully we could get from the house to the ferry and then the city centre in 25 minutes. Having the bikes also meant we could explore the local area of Amsterdam North, and cycling to and from the Twiske nature reserve was a highlight of our trip. I would recommend Suzanne's house for a swap.”
Where is it?
Our house is situated in Amsterdam North, close to the more and more popular NDSM area. The area is more industrial looking than the old centre of Amsterdam, therefore it is often compared to Brooklyn, NY.
You can use our bicycles to go to the ferry, the bike ride will take you a little over 5 minutes and the ferry ride to the central station will take 12 minutes.
It is also possible to rent bicycles at the NDSM or do everything by public transport, but we really recommend cycling.
The NDSM-Wharf is a former dock (from 1894 till 1979) where big and small ships were built and repaired. Nowadays, this area is a place where artists and other creative people do their thing.
There are several nice restaurants in the NDSM area with terraces facing the Ij river.
Our neighborhood is very friendly and safe. Children can play on the street and ride their bikes. We are friendly with most of our nearby neighbors and their children.
There is a supermarket at the end of our street for your groceries and if you pass by the supermarket and take a stroll further to the north you end up on the dyke and you will feel like you enter a more rural area.
The nature reserve Het Twiske is close by. Long stretches of grass and water and hundreds of different kinds of birds. You can ride your bike all the way through it and have a picnic.
