About our home

Our beloved family home is located in the upcoming Amsterdam North. Just 10 minutes to the center of Amsterdam, 2 minutes to the parc and 5 minutes to pictoresc Dutch country side with canals, boats and dikes. And some of Amsterdam's best restaurants and bars just around the corner, yet our street is calm and green. Best of both worlds!

Our home has a nice light living room with a comfortable open kitchen located on ground floor with access to the garden. One floor up you will find the master bedroom, children room and bathroom. The master bedroom is light and spacious, the bathroom modern and comfortable. On the third floor (up some pretty steep stairs - welcome to Amsterdam...!) you'll find the second bedroom which is equally spacious and light as the master bedroom with a comfortable sofa bed and a study that also holds a sink and washing machine.

We will leave our bikes behind for you to use (including children seat or child wagon for the bike). If you come by car, you can park free of charge in front of the house - one of the last few neighborhoods of Amsterdam, where that is still possible.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Quiet, leavy, between two parcs and some funky restraurants, bars.... Amsterdam Noord is Amsterdam's fastest changeing, most dynamic neighborhood. Not too long ago, it was where the worker's lived, then the artists and students came, now the young families. Gentrification. But the process is still dynamic, still ongoing, and the mixture we have right now is fascinating. The New York Times compared Amsterdam Noord in a feature article to Brooklyn. And of course there is the proximity to the centre of Amsterdam and the easy accessibility of Dutch country side just around the corner complete with some of its most pictoresque villages and streets - check out Haarlemmerdijk straat in Niewendam just two minutes from our house. Truly best of all worlds.

Buzzy restaurants
Have some fish on the water front and watch the cruise ships come and go at restaurant stork, have dinner in one of Amsterdam's best restaurants Hotel de Goudfazant
Cool bars
Grab a bite or drink at FC Hyena (or watch a movie in one of their two very well programmed cinemas, or go bouldering and climbing next door, or watch the sun go down drink in hand at Bar Madam on top of the Amsterdam tower enjoying THE VERY BEST view of this amazing city, check out the skate cafe for music, drinks, cool vibes and well skate boarding or check out one of the dance bars next door (open Thursdays to Sunday); for live music programming check out the TolhuisTuin
Cozy cafés
The cafe in the fim museum is wonderful for sunsets, Plekk has great brunch, lunch, outdoor beach hang out and evening disco, Pompet is three minutes away from our house in the pac and a lot of fun - sit under leavy trees and play a jeu de boule or listen to some live music programming
Retail therapy
orignial department store, but I would go to the 9 streets for some shopping around and a walk along Utrechtse straat and then of course, there are the markets! Try the flea market (if that is your thing) at NDSM
Bit of culture
Lots and lots and lots - if you are into museas, it might be worthwhile to get a museumscard - if you go and visit more than three, it is already worth it.
Walks in the park
Plenty! Parks and 'real' nature, green, country side
Spot of exercise
or cycle to the island of Marken.
Day tripping
The beach is a mere 30 minutes away by car or train (Zandvoort), you can also ride your bike and make a nice day trip out of it! Haarlem is nearby and always worth a trip - maybe even a little more scenic than Amsterdam as smaller, more concetrated and calmer, de Zaanse schans with its world renowed windmill views and walks, and lots of beautiful very picturesques outings just a bike ride away: Twiske a nature conservation area with a big lake in which one can swim, broek in waterland, where you can take a canoe tour through the reed swamps, Monickendam with its great open view over the Ij - and nice cafees... Where to start and where to stop - so, so much to do. We keep a list of suggestions and guides in the house for visitors
