About our home

You can't get more Dutch then this as our house is actually built ON a dyke. It means there is a large basement and that the house is one floor higher in the back than in the front. There are a master bedroom, a cosy attic room with single bed and a bathroom upstairs and a large bedroom and bathroom in the basement with access to the garden in the back. In the front there is a large south facing terrace. The house is very charming with heaps of character and space. Amsterdam Noord was featured in many national and international newspapers and magazines and is considered one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Europe. Be aware though that it is a bit further from town, but with bike, car, public transport like bus, metro or ferry, downtown and all it has to over is within very easy reach. You are in the middle of it all within 25 minutes. Parking is free which is a HUGE plus here so it is also a great location to explore towns outside Amsterdam. But Noord itself has plenty to offer too. There are the new EYE film museum, A'dam tower, NDSM werf, the largest vintage market in the country and a variety of popular bars and restaurants, often housed in industrial buildings and facing the river IJ. We can throw in a couple of bikes if needed and our car is optional, depending on the swap.

Where is it?

Amsterdam Noord is considered one of the hippest parts of town. Previously unloved, it is now home to both a bohemien scene that converted warehouses into studio's, galleries, shops, restaurants and more and people that wanted to live in Amsterdam, but with a bit more space. It still has a distinct village-feel with wonderful 17th, 18th and 19th century wooden homes along cobbled streets and dykes and charming 1920's and 30's and Mid Century architecture, This part of town is even rural in some places, but the city is always near. Easy acces with busses, ferry's, bikes and car make it the perfect spot for a visit to Amsterdam (20-30 minutes max) and other Dutch towns like Volendam, Haarlem, The Hague, Rotterdam, Edam, Leiden, Delft etc all under an hour.
