About our home

A real Amsterdam experience is our beautiful, light and spacious houseboat of 150m2. Our split level houseboat is located at a street with big old trees and Dutch traditional houses from the 1920's.

This boat was newly build in 2017. You enter the boat via a private garden terrace of 80m2 with sunlight in the morning till 2 p.m. You can enjoy this wonderful secluded space from the morning till the evening. You can sit here in the sun to have lunch, dinner or just read a book.

The biggest part of the boat consists of a spacious and extremely light, loft-kind-of livingroom with an big open kitchen. There is a luxurious bathroom with a large bubble bath and two showers, two childeren rooms and a comfortable master bedroom and study with a two person bed. The boat has lot's of windows, a concrete floor with heating and all modern facillities like central heating, a washing-machine and T.V.

We also have a motorboat available to sail the canals and experience amsterdam from the water. Enjoying the changing Dutch skys, birds and water feels like living in nature, although you are close to the city-centre. It makes us feel free and every day is like a holiday!

More about us

  1. We are a couple of 45 and 40 years old. We have a daughter (age10) and a son (age 8) that will of course join us on our trip.

We have had many wonderful home exchanges so far and we love the concept. We look forward to the adventure and inspiration we will get from your home and we will make sure to take good care of it.

  2. Aico is a food photographer and runs his own photo studio, Maartje has studied philosophy and works at the Dutch Cancer Society as a controller.

  3. We love to travel, food and to be submerged in local society, an experience we can only have with home for exchange! At the moment we are not interested in swapping in the near future. We do are interested in finding a swap in the beginning of 2022 for a skiing destination.

Where is it?

The boat is located in the North of Amsterdam, also called the sunny side of the city! Just a 15 minute walk, or a 5-minute bikeride, to the ferry that takes you in 2 minutes to the Central Station. The free ferry crosses the IJ-river every 5 minutes (and all night long every 10 minutes).

From the Central Station, which lies at the heart of the city, you can go anywhere (by train, metro, bus, tram, bike or walking): Anne Frank House in 5 minutes by bike, Damsquare & Red Light disctrict 5 minutes, Leidsesquare 15 minutes and the beautiful canals are on walking distance. We have 2 bikes available for you to use.

Our old industrial neighbourhood is urban, lively and upcoming as more and more artists and media companies are putting up their business here. In the evening it's nice and quiet. There is a fruit, vegetables and clothing-market every wednesday and saturday, on walking distance from the boat.

When you take the bike and cycle to the North you will soon (within 15 minutes) find yourself amidst pastures and cows and enjoying the typical Dutch countryside with traditional farms, windmills and houses. If you are lucky you can even buy eggs, milk or honey at the farm. So if you want to be able to easily reach the Dutch country-side as well as the exciting centre of Amsterdam, our neighborhood is the place to be.
