About our home

(I will add some photos of our home later this week)

Our house is great for relaxing, reading, watching tv, playing with the kids (we have small children so there's no worry about white couches, expensive artwork or antique vases. We don't have any of that.) Just a low key environment in which you can enjoy life with your family.

We live in a real family home, a big house of approximately 3000 ft2, with a great backyard as well, where you can barbecue, eat with up to 6 people or just enjoy watching the birds and the clouds. Our house used to be a vicarage, which explains why the backyard is bordered on one side by an old church (now housing our lovely neighbours). This makes for a lovely view out of the kitchen and from the terrace.

Our home is very practical and spacious.
Downstairs there is a large living room with a giant couch, a big tv (with netflix and videoland), a dining table that seats eight adults or five adults and three children. Also: a lot of books (most of which in Dutch but also quite a few in English) and a lot of toys.
There's a big kitchen with an oven, a dishwasher, a 5-burner stove, a microwave, toaster, grill and a big fridge with freezer compartment. (There's an extra freezer in the basement). Nespresso machine and electric kettle are also provided. There's two studies, one of which has an extra tv, and there's a separate laundry room and a toilet downstairs.

Upstairs you will find a big bathroom with bath, shower, toilet, double sink and five bedrooms: two rooms with a kingsize bed each, one room with a bunk bed (for two children) and one room with a cot (for baby or toddler). The fifth room is momentarily out of order so can not be used right now.

More about us

  1. We are Maud en Chiel, 32 and 34 years old. We are two working parents of three small boys (ages 5, 3 and 1) looking for new travel experiences all over the world (but mostly in Europe, since there is still so much we want to see and experience here).

  2. I (Maud) am a freelance writer, editor and trainer, and my husband Chiel is a New Business Solutioner. We are openminded and relaxed people, who love to have dinner or have a game night with friends, travel, read, watch movies, enjoy going to a museum or a night at the theatre and, last but not least: playing outside with our kids. So we love taking them on trips to the woods, to the beach, anywhere where kids are welcome and safe.

  3. We live in Westervoort, very near Arnhem, because we like the balance this small town gives us between enjoying nature and enjoying city life, both of which are just around the corner.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our neighbourhood is very quiet. We live in a small town near Arnhem, called Westervoort. We do live on a busy street, but the house is very well isolated and in the rustique and spacious backyard you hardly notice the cars passing by. Our house is on the edge of town. This means it only takes a three minute walk for you to be surrounded by pastures, meadows, sheep, horses, the river, the grass, trees and clear blue skies (or very dark thundery skies, you never know, it's still the Netherlands).

On the other hand, there is a train station right in our street, where both trains and buses wil take you to the lovely and lively city of Arnhem in just a few minutes. Arnhem is a great place to shop (top 3 most populair cities to shop in the Netherlands), to have dinner or drinks (we'll leave you a long long list of places to go for the best foods, drinks and vibes) or to go out at night.

And then there's Sonsbeek park (in Arnhem), one of the biggets recreational parks of the Netherlands, and of course National Park de Hoge Veluwe, with all it's nature and wildlife. Here you can walk or bike around for hours on end, spotting

Buzzy restaurants
Huis ter West (at the end of the street). Other restaurants you'll find in Arnhem. The best: 't Zusje, Goed.Proeven, Caspar, Zafvino, Iveau Burgers & Wine, Graave, Popocatepetl, Dadawan, Zappa's, Sugar Hill, Bosporus and many many more.
Cool bars
Bar Florian, De Staat, Stan&Co, Dollars, Luxor Live and 5th Avenue
Cozy cafés
Goed.Proeven, Caspar, Sint Jan, Bar Florian
Retail therapy
Anywhere in Arnhem city centre
Bit of culture
Arnhem War Museum, the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum (Dutch open air museum), Airborne museum (discover the battle of Arnhem WWII)
Walks in the park
anywhere around the back of the house. You can walk over the dikes, along the rivers, through the fields to neighbouring villages or just around the block.
Spot of exercise
There's great exercising possibilities in Sportsplanet (5 minutes by bike, 4 by car, 18 by foot)
Day tripping
Sonsbeek Park, National Park de Hoge Veluwe, Burgers'Zoo, Monkeytown (indoor playground nearby), De leuke linde (outdoor playground in Arnhem), Any of the Dutch cities you want to go to, because Arnhem/Westervoort are pretty much smack in the middle, you can be almost anywhere in about an hour by train.
