About our home

Our lovely detached family home is built in 2009 and lies near the IJsselmeer (lake) in the picturesque 17th century village of Edam. Many tourist visit Edam every day for its famous cheese market (see picture) and its beautiful houses. It has a few nice restaurants and all the shops you need.

Famous other Dutch towns like Volendam, Monnickendam, Alkmaar and Hoorn are very near. Edam is only 25 mins by bus to the centre of Amsterdam and 20 mins by car. The public transport system in the Netherlands is excellent.

The view of the Dutch country side from our house is stunning. You will recognise the skies over the fields from the paintings of old Dutch masters like Van Gogh and Rembrandt. It is an ideal retreat to visit Amsterdam and also see the famous towns around it. A few hundred meters from our house lies the IJsselmeer where you can go swimming or sailing. You can also step on one of our bikes and cycle via the IJsselmeer-dyke to Hoorn feeling like a true Dutchman (or -woman!).
