About our home

We bought this home in 2005 and have been very happy here since. Its centerpiece is a large, exceptionally bright living room/conservatory which makes one feel one is sitting outside in the garden (which, of course, one is free to do as well!), e.g. while listening to our high-end audio system (with large cd collection and digital radio-tv with hundreds of channels). Our secluded garden is about 800 m^2 and has a small pond where one may sit in almost complete silence. Our kitchen is a continuation of the living room facing the garden. Three bedrooms are upstairs, one is in a wing of the house downstairs and another is in a separate garden house with its own toilet/shower.

More about us

We just celebrated our 100th birthday as a family, with Felix at 6, Julius at 7 and Imke at 44 and Klaas at 43. Imke works in the farmaceutical industry and Klaas is a professor of mathematical physics at the Radboud Unversity Nijmegen. We met in Cambridge (U.K.) and at an earlier stage Imke (who is German) lived in Egypt and Namibia for a year.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our house is located in a residential area just off the city of Nijmegen, which just celebrated its 2000th birthday and is the oldest city in The Netherlands. Local woods are at walking distance, and a short bicylce trip brings one either in wooded hills formed in the ice age or in pretty polderland. Endless cycling tours are possible both north and south of Nijmegen. Amsterdam can be reached with a direct train in 75 minutes. The German border is 10 minutes by car.
