“We exchanged with Adwin, Annalise and their children during Christmas 2015. Leeuwarden is a very nice town, full of charm. the surrounding countryside is also very nice and must be explored by bike. The house has lots of history and charm, but is also well renovated with all the comforts. Our house in France was also well taken care of by Adwin an Annalise. A very successful exchange. Adwin's reviewsAs a host (2)
“We were thrilled to have visited Leeuwarden for the first time.!! We have visited Holland several times as well as having done three home exchanges, but this was our first time in this historic old city. The location of the house is perfect for walking everywhere. In fact the only time we used the vehicle was when we travelled to other locations.. that is if we did not take the train, which was also very convenient. In Leeuwarden we found a wonderful selection of museums, galleries, architecture, cultural events, historic monuments and buildings, restaurants, shops of all sorts , all in a most beautiful setting. Every day was an adventure of discovery. The unique design of the property itself, was much to our liking too. Elements of modern and old architecture are evident throughout. Our generous hosts left comprehensive information about their home and the city, so we did not need to go to any tourist bureau at all ! With or without children, we would recommend we would highly recommend this unique exchange experience.”
Where is it?
Our house is located on a quiet spot in the historical heart of Leeuwarden, the European Capital of Culture 2018. Restaurants, pubs, shops, musea, theatres and cinema's are within walking distance. The charming city of Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland, a province with its own language and culture. The city is surrounded by green meadows, lakes and wetlands. People who like cycling, walking or watersports (sailing, canooing) will have a great time. There is also a very nice zoo nearby. The province of Friesland is famous for its rich history, picturesque lakes and immaculate villages. The small historical cities have all their own charm. Fun to watch are traditional Frisian sports as skútsjesilen (races with traditional sailing ships) and fierljeppen (pole vault jumping over the water). North of Leeuwarden (30 minutes drive to one of the ferries) are the Frisian islands, famous for their wilderness, dunes and kilometres of empty beaches. Amsterdam is about an hour and 15 minutes away by car. More info about our area at: www.visitfryslan.nl
