Leiden is situated between Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. Leiden is easily accessible by any means of transportation. It is close to the North Sea coast, an extensive lake district and the always colourful bulb fields, which flower in spring, and they are just around the corner, so to speak

Leiden is located in the Randstad close to large cities like The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and has easy access to the coast of Noordwijk or Katwijk. The accessibility is excellent, Leiden is between the A4 and A44 and from all directions trains stop at Leiden Central Station. From Leiden Central Station you can walk to the town.

Leiden is an historical city, a city filled with charm, class, friendliness and hidden treasures and delights, all waiting for you to discover it . Leiden is surprisingly rewarding, stimulates your curiosity and invites you to take a look into her glorious past, to enjoy her valuable present, and look forward to her promising future.
Monuments
Leiden has nearly 2800 monuments, from courtyards to windmills, and churches to city gates. Actually, the entire city of Leiden is a monumental center. The distances within the canals are small, so a walk along the canal banks to see the most prominent monuments is absolutely worth it!
It is also a popular University town.
Hiking
Leiden has a compact and convenient town center and is well suited to exploration on foot on your own. Of course, you can also be led by a guide. There are a number of original themed walks around the city for you to discover. These are available at Visitor Centre Initiations
National Landscape
The Green Heart is one of the twenty National Landscapes. These are the green belts from rural areas in the Netherlands which government, businesses and residents are committed to maintain and strengthen. Each National Landscape has a unique combination of cultural, historical and natural elements. The National Landscape, The Green Heart, consists of meadows, bogs, large ponds, lakes and meandering rivers, but also historic towns, forts, windmill and farms.
