About our home

Our home is a huge new version (built in 2012) of the old gentleman's houses that are known in Dutch cities, and located in one of the posh areas surrounding Utrecht city centre on the north-east side. The neighbourhood Tuindorp is known for its typical 1930's houses.

The house boasts 3 spacious stories (connected with a wide staircase):

- Ground (1st) floor: a wide and long floor plan: cozy living/tv/lounge area, a connected dining area and a super large open kitchen with breakfast bar. A half bathroom (toilet and typical dutch toilet asset: waterfountain). And a piano!

- 2nd floor: Large landing provides access to luxurious bathroom with giant bath tub and walk-in-shower, two sinks and lots of cabinet space. Three bedrooms; Two large masterbedrooms (queen/double in each), one smaller extra bedroom/study with sleepsofa (full size)

-3rd floor: Landing provides access to 2nd luxury bathroom with great walk-in-shower, two sinks and plenty of cabinet space.
Another two bedrooms, each with a with queen size bed, beautifully decorated by/for teenage girls. Washer/Dryer/Ironing area.

The house is in a residential area but minutes away from the City Centre. And minutes away from country-side like pastures, farms, old windmills and adjacent to the Vechtstreek, known for its many vestiges of the Dutch Golden Age, including castles, homes, parks and tea houses.

4 bikes are available for your use, parked in the half-covered back yard bike area. Car is also available upon request. Utrecht is a city in the middle of the Netherlands, and from there you can get anywhere easily, either by the super train network or by car. The train station Overvecht is an 8 minute walk (3 min bike ride) from the house, and train gets you to Utrecht central Station in 4 minutes. Bus stops right by the house as well. The world is your oyster!

Please consider our home as yours for a family retreat the middle of Utrecht, where you will be close to all Dutch places of interest, city and nature. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Gouda, Delft all within an hour, either by car or using the great public transportation system, within Netherlands or Europe. The many beaches along the Dutch coastline are about 1 hour way, but you can swim and lounge at lake beaches in as little 15 minutes after leaving the house.

More about us

  1. We are family! MamaLou (Louise) and 3 daughters, 18, 16 and 12 (by this summer).
We lived in Boston where the girls grew up until we moved 'back' here in 2015.

  2. Louise works as a cancer research scientist for a Utrecht biotech company. The girls are in Utrecht high schools.

  3. We love being together and hence, the house is cozy, comfortable and has a vibe that is as Dutch as it gets: gezellig!

Where is it?

Utrecht! With its gorgeous townhouses, a flowermarket along the canal on Saturday and more bicycles than you can handle, Utrecht makes you feel like you’re living the Dutch dream. Although the city is much more petite than Amsterdam or Rotterdam, there are a lot of different neighborhoods in Utrecht. Tuindorp, where we are located, became popular in 90’s with families and yuppies. You’ll find some good deli’s, bakeries and butchers here. The popular Wilhelminapark in English landscape style and the more modern and spacious Griftpark is all nearby and a bike ride of minutes.

Utrecht City Centre basically offers everything people imagine the Netherlands is made off: narrow streets, townhouses, markets, canals, little bars and a lot of history! The city centre of Utrecht was founded by the Romans and most people don’t realize that it’s a lot older than Amsterdam, Leiden or Delft. On a few square kilometers you can timetravel from the Roman era, to the defining Middle Ages and onwards to early Jugendstill or 1970’s architecture.

Utrecht is a central Dutch city is a great place to explore the Netherlands from. With a well-developed train infrastructure you can travel virtually anywhere quickly. 40 minutes to Amsterdam, an hour to the Hague or Rotterdam etc.

Buzzy restaurants
Utrecht has countless restaurants to chose from. Dine by the water at the Oudegracht canal in the centre or any of the many other places around town
