About our home

Our house is a municipal monument. The oldest part of our house dates from 1700 (1640...). Over time the house has changed. In 1900 or so the house got its final shape and size. Inside you will see many art-deco-ish elements. The front of the house is facing north. From the street it shows two floors. From the back it shows three floors, since the house is built on the original mound where all the old buildings of the village are situated. Since our garden is at the back, facing south, and well surrounded by walls and our neighbouring house, It is not windy. And in summer a nice place to stay.

More about us

  1. We, Willy Klok and Aris Roskam live in this house for a few decades. During the working part of our life Willy was a branch manager at a bookshop. Aris was teaching physics at a high school. We raised three children and they are all living happily in other places than Strijen. Since we retired our activities are rather non-committal. Willy is importing Italian pottery and selling it all over Holland.
Aris is spending his time making the most beautiful things ever. http://www.arisroskam.com/
We like to spend our holiday in a city where there is a culture we had never (or hardly) met before.

Where is it?

Our house is situated in the centre of the village. Just opposite the church. The local museum and all kind of shops are within 200m walking distance. At the back of the house it takes a walk of 500m and there the rural part of the island, on which Strijen is situated, begins. There you will find a kind of bird sanctuary. A nice place to cycle or walk for hours. The nearest city is Dordecht at 20km distance.
