About our home

*The house comes with a boat in the harbor in front of the house, a cat and 2 bicycles*

Our home is an old appartment (1906). It's 86m2 (925 sq ft) and has 3 rooms. The house has a seperate shower and bath, two bedrooms, a walk in closet and a fully equiped kitchen.

It's a house that's built on a (typical dutch) dike. Therefore it has two split level entrances. The back entrance of the house has a view of a few picturesque "green wooden houses of Zaandam" and you can also see the famous "Czaar Peter house". At the front side of the house you have a very nice view of a small city-harbour (Dukra jachthaven). The house is in a one-way street in the centre of Zaandam, therefor it's quite and peaceful while in the absolute centre of the city. Zaandam is an historic town that's intimately tied to industry. In the Dutch Golden Age, Zaandam served as a large milling centre. Thousands of windmills powered saws that processed Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries.

The centre offers a theatre, cinema (in English, with subtitles), quite a few good restaurants at walking (!) distance, ferry to Amsterdam, trainstation (10 min walk, 10 min train-time) to Amsterdam (and to Schiphol, Utrecht and Rotterdam) and a nice shopping centre. Of course it's quite close to the famous "Zaanse Schans" and other dutch highlights as Volendam, Keukenhof, Zandvoort etcetera...

Where is it?

Because we live in the Centre of Zaandam a lot is on walking distance. The city centre has a lot of restaurants, a theatre and a movie theatre with English spoken movies. Some historical important highlights in the city are "the blue house" of Monet (2 houses from ours), Czaar Peter house (right behind our house) and the old City Square. All on walking distance. Most important near the city of Zaandam are of course Amsterdam (10 min. by train, an hour by bike or boat, 20 min. by car) and there famous Canals. The Zaanse Schans (20 min. by bicycle). And a couple of famous villages as Volendam, Edam, Monnickendam, Haarlem and Enkhuizen. All in less then 30 min driving.
