Diana's reviewsAs a host (3)
“Fabulous views with great hosts who were very generous with their time and effort as such short notice. Many thanks. ”
“I can't use enough superlatives to describe Diana's home, it's location or her hospitality. We stayed a full 2 weeks and 'melted' into the experience - what a wonderful family stay! OUTDOOR The house is designed for outdoor viewing pleasure - it overlooks turquoise Duvauchelle bay. The home's huge windows and large patio + balcony seating maximize the ‘to die for’ views in every direction. The grounds include a beautiful garden with walking paths. INDOOR The home has, literally, everything you might want. The kitchen is very well equipped from blender to panini sandwich machine. There is a BBQ. The TV has cable and there are movies on offer. The bedrooms are large and bright and the bathrooms are fully equipped and spotless. The pool table made for, literally, hours of family fun. Board games and books are on offer to round-out the beach house feeling. There is a washer and dryer for your laundry too. We found everything spotlessly clean. LOCATION If you're looking for crowds or night life, you're looking in the wrong place. The immediate community is quiet - we went days without seeing anyone else in the neighbourhood. If you 'make your own fun', are travelling as a family, are into water sports or you enjoy quieter, more peaceful and picturesque spots, Diana's is the place for you! My crew jogged the summit road daily, hit the local schoolyards in Duvauchelle and Akaroa for basketball courts and kids' playgrounds and played in the ocean a lot. Nearby are many other bays with stunning beaches - the kind with nobody there, turquoise water, clean sand and a "pinch me - is this real… oh and is that a seal on the beach?" feeling. Nearby Akaroa has a weekly farmer's market, which is a bit touristy, but still fun. You'll need a car - oh, and the driving is superb! Akaroa has a 4-Square supermarket - but it’s expensive. We recommend a trip to Pak ‘N Save in Christchurch on your way in instead. Thanks Diana! ”
Where is it?
Our holiday home is on a sunny hillside beside the sea amongst other quality modern homes. There are local bush walks, walks by the sea, and many bays with nice beaches you can drive to within 15 minutes. There is also a local cheese factory, vineyard, art gallery, convenience store, petrol station, bar and pub that sells good pub food. The early French settlers seaside village of Akaroa is 15 minutes drive away where there are numerous small shops, restaurants, bars, a wharf, a museum of local history, and local historic Churches. Numerous tourist activities are available and wildlife tours to see penguins , sea birds and seals, and to swim with dolphins, are a specialty.
