More about us

  1. We are a couple with 2 adult children and 1 older teenager. We now have the freedom to travel more often. We love our vacation home and love the idea of swapping with other enthusiastic home owners and mutally enjoy new destinations. We keep our place clean and very tidy- always ready for our guests. We have both travelled and lived overseas and know how much nicer it is to stay in a home rather than a hotel.

  2. David works as an Air Traffic Controller and I run two not for profit Christian Charities associated with counselling and respite. We both have a strong aviation background.

  3. We both love travelling and I travel often internationally for conferences and speaking engagements.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our holiday home is on a sunny hillside beside the sea amongst other quality modern homes. There are local bush walks, walks by the sea, and many bays with nice beaches you can drive to within 15 minutes. There is also a local cheese factory, vineyard, art gallery, convenience store, petrol station, bar and pub that sells good pub food. The early French settlers seaside village of Akaroa is 15 minutes drive away where there are numerous small shops, restaurants, bars, a wharf, a museum of local history, and local historic Churches. Numerous tourist activities are available and wildlife tours to see penguins , sea birds and seals, and to swim with dolphins, are a specialty.

Buzzy restaurants
There are quality restaurants in Akaroa specialising in seafood and French cuisine but my favourite is 'Bully Hayes' which has fantastic food with street level tables amongst all the action, with beautiful views, or try their shady garden area out the back.Ma Maison also has lovely views with an outdoor dining section.Fresh grilled fish and chips are available from a little caravan on the wharf during the day- try their local fresh salmon!
Cool bars
There are a number of good bars and Kiwi style pubs in Akaroa but my favourite bar is 'HarBar' , a little bar directly overlooking the harbour( limited snack menu).
Cozy cafés
the Peninsula General Store is a great health food store and cafe with home baked goods and bread.Sweet As Bakery sells french style treats including crepes! But there are enough good cafes to go somewhere different everyday for a week!
Retail therapy
Akaroa has everything from botique clothes and gifts shops to Kiwiana Art and souvenirs shops. The shops are very quaint and you can do a lesuirely stroll enjoying the village ambience.
Bit of culture
Vineyards, art galleries and Museums provide plenty of local culture. The Okains Bay Maori and Colonial Museum has the biggest and best collection of Maori artifacts in the world but is run by the locals! Okains Bay is also an historic village with its own Marae and whaka and boasts a beautiful beach and lagoon. The Waitangi Day celebrations there are the best in New Zealand.
Walks in the park
There are a number of local walks with magnificent views
Spot of exercise
Hiking, swimming, padle boarding, kayaking are all available locally.
Day tripping
Visit all the local bays or Christchurch which is just over 1 hour away.
