About our home

Our house is a comfortable family home with two double beds and one set of bunk beds. There are two verandahs - one at the front and one at the back - so there is always somewhere to sit in the sun. The back verandah has lovely water views over Kawau Island and the moored boats in Algies Bay.
The kitchen, dining and lounge area is open plan.
The living area has a heat pump, providing heating in winter and air conditioning in summer.
During a non simultaneous exchange we live in the downstairs flat which is completely self contained with its own separate entrance or if the weather permits, we go sailing in our small yacht.

More about us

  1. Tom and I are teachers at the local college. We have lived here for 15 years and we do lots of walking and sailing. We have 3 grown up sons. At this stage of our life we are very keen to travel but not so keen to spend our time in hotels! We are novice exchangers but have heard from people who have had really good experiences from it.

Where is it?

We love this area. It is about 45 minutes drive north of the Auckland harbour bridge. We have some small local villages - Warkworth, Snells Beach, Matakana and Leigh. There are many beaches in the area and several regional parks that make for wonderful walking opportunities.
You can take a ferry to nearby Kawau Island and spend the day exploring and swimming or take a ferry from Whangaparoa and explore the bird sanctuary island of Tiritiri Matangi.
About 20 minutes drive away is the marine sanctuary of Goat Island which offers great snorkeling opportunities.
If horse riding is your thing, that can be done on Pakiri Beach.
The area is well known for its cafes and vineyards. So if you enjoy the outdoors, come and visit us. We'll be happy to share our local knowledge.
