About our home

Our spacious two-story brick home is comfortable and sunny with magnificent views of the Southern Alps which is the mountain range running the entire length f the South Island. We have five bedrooms plus a large rumpus/spare room above the garage which is attached to the house. The kitchen is new [the house itself is only 4 years old] and the library with the balcony is our favourite place.

More about us

We are a family of eight - six children aged from 5 - 17 plus Sam and I who are in our 40's. Sam is a plasterer and I'm a home-educating mother. We haven't done home-exchange yet but look forward to it as an afordable, family - friendly way to travel abit. As home-schoolers we can be very flexible with holiday times. We enjoy snow-skiing every year and water sports in summer when we can. We love BBQing in the mountains or at home. Although our home doesn't have TV connected we have DVD and video.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our house sits on one hectare [2 1/2 acres] land just two km outside of Ashburton which is a small rural town and one hour from Christchurch which is anything but a small rural town! The mountains provide not only fabulous views but also several skifields including Mt Hutt an international field and many others. There are also great hikes and mountain lakes to spend sunny days. Our weather is usually sunny and dry with magnificent skies... the sunsets and sunrises are amazing.
