About our home

Our home is a 25 year old detached house on 1700 sq.metres of land in Methven, a small rural town in Canterbury. Our house is on a quiet street on the edge of the town with the Methven Racecourse and farmland opposite us. The house has 3 bedrooms upstairs and another basement room, also used as a bedroom for guests. It is open plan living downstairs with kitchen and lounge/dining room and there is a separate laundry between the kitchen and back door. There is a small deck area out of the sliding doors from the dining area, where one can sit outside. We have a log burner for heating in both the basement room and the lounge. There are views of the mountains from the upstairs level, and these mountains are used for ski-ing in the winter.

We have bicycles, trampoline, car (for possible use) and plenty of toys.

More about us

  1. We are a family of four - Trevor, 48, has worked at Mt. Hutt for many years and is a New Zealander. Sally, 53, is originally from England and runs a small business. Our two girls are Clare, 18, and finishing her schooling at the end of this year) and Fiona, nearly 9, who would like a chance to go to an English school for a while. The local primary school where she attends is a good school with about 200 pupils. There is also a high school in Methven with around 500 pupils.

We have one old dog and two cats, but may be able to have someone look after our dog.

Where is it?

Methven has a population of around 2000 in the summer and this triples in the ski season. The town has two small supermarkets, a petrol station, postal agency, several craft and gift shops, and 3 cafes and several restaurants. The larger town of Ashburton is 25 minutes drive away, where most types of larger shops can be found, and lovely gardens. Just over an hour's drive away is the city of Christchurch (with international airport) which offers beaches, theatres, and many more attractions. Methven is situated in a quiet area in summer, with farms surrounding the area, and beautiful walks in the foothills of the mountains 10-15 minutes drive away, and the Rakaia River is about the same distance where there are jetboat rides and salmon fishing. Methven also has a good golf course near the centre of town, plus there is another international class golf course 20 minutes away at Terrace Downs, overlooking the Rakaia River.
