About our home

Our home is comfortable, clean, and spacious with great views of Auckland Harbour and the City Skyline. There is water access at the bottom of the property and we have a kayak and a small sailing boat which can be used. (The shell 'beach' is suitable for kayaking and watersports but the pool is much better for swimming as the beach is tidal and muddy at low tide).

The house is an older style house with large with upstairs and downstairs living areas and can sleep 6-8 people comfortably. The furniture is tidy, comfortable and contemporary.

The living area consists of a very large lounge and reading area, an adjoining dining area and kitchen. The kitchen, lounge and dining windows provide fantastic views of Auckland Harbour and Auckland's landmark Sky Tower. The kitchen is a little dated but perfectly functional!

The garden is more native bush than garden with NZ's signature red flowering 'Pohutakawa' trees framing the views of the harbour. Many native - and other birds can be spotted in the trees on our property including the beautiful singing Tui, Fantail and Wood Pigeon. Yesterday I spotted a not so native Californian Quail on our lawn and we have the odd hedgehog visit too.

There is a heated swimming pool with a large deck and the property is fenced but young children do need to be supervised at all times when outside. The reason for this is that the property is cliff top and has a steep staircase going down to the waters-edge from the bottom of the property.

Having said this, we have raised our 6 year old here, so provided you supervise when outside, there is plenty for children to do with a swing set, sand pit, trampoline and swimming pool. There is a park with a playground down the road for kicking balls etc and some other lovely walks and cycle paths to children's play grounds, beaches and local coffee shops etc.

The main bedroom and a single (children's) bedroom are upstairs. There is another bedroom downstairs off a very large rumpus room. The rumpus room can be configured as a bedroom if additional bedding is required.

There is a study / 4th bedroom but this is currently my husband's man cave so is currently not available for use.

There is a small bathroom with shower and toilet off the downstairs lounge area.

More about us

  1. My husband is an Anaesthetist and I am a professional fundraiser. We have two children - one large and one small (both boys).

My husband is also an ex Naval Medical Officer and is passionate about sailing and the water in general so if you are a yachtie - he can offer advice and we do have a small sailing dingy down on our 'beach'. If you are an experienced sailor, we do have a small yacht moored at Westhaven Marina which we could consider providing access too.

We both love the beautiful area that we live in .. but enjoy travelling and seeing new places.

Where is it?

There is a ferry terminal an easy ten minute walk down at the end of our street. This takes you on a ten minute ferry ride directly to the heart of Auckland City and the Auckland Viaduct and Wynard Quarter with fantastic fine dining and family restaurants.

Connecting ferries from the Auckland Ferry Terminal provide a gateway to local islands including Waiheke (vineyards, beaches, restaurants and craft markets), Rangitoto and others. A car is not necessary but we would be happy to include a car in the exchange.

The picturesque Devonport Village and naval port is a pleasant 35 to 45 minute walk - or a 15 minute bike ride - on purpose built paths, mainly through local native bush reserves. We have bikes which we are happy for you to use.

There are spectacular and safe swimming beaches all the way around the Devonport Peninsular which are all only a 5 minute drive, a leisurely 45 minute walk or a 15-20 minute bike ride.

Local beaches include Narrow Neck Beach, Cheltenham Beach, Takapuna Beach and Devonport Beach, all with breathtaking views of Rangitoto Island. There are two volcanic 'mountain' walks, one at the end of Cheltenham Beach and one in Devonport Central which is an absolutely beautiful naval village.

Or if you fancy a bit of local shopping or want to eat out and don't want to go to into Auckland, Devonport Village has some lovely restaurants. There is also a bus stop an easy 5 minute walk from our house with buses to Takapuna, which is the larger local shopping area.

Waitemata Golf Course is a stone throw away and there is a local tennis club within walking distance.

Or you can just stay at home, enjoy the views, take a stroll down to the Ferry Terminal which has a lovely boardwalk - and then spend the afternoon having a BBQ and a swim.
