“Je vous recommande particulièrement de faire un échange avec Helene si vous désirez visiter Vienne. Elle a été adorable avec nous et son appartement est vraiment super, bien mieux que je ne l'imaginais sur les photos. Il est très bien situé, près d'une zone piétonne et avec le métro et le tram à côté de sa porte, et il n'y a pas de bruit. Cela a été un vrai plaisir pour nous et notre appartement nous a été rendu dans un état parfait.”

About our home
A gorgeous double storey Victorian villa in Remuera, which is one of the most sought after areas of Auckland. This is a substantial house, set in half an acre of lawn and gardens, with a large solar heated pool. The house is nestled on a hillside overlooking Orakei Basin (an ancient volcano crater, now a recreational lake), with expansive water views over the Basin and beyond to the Waitamata Harbour.
All the rooms are bright and spacious, and enjoy all day sun. Our home was extensively renovated in 2016, to create new kitchen, dining, informal seating areas and deck, and to enhance the heritage aspects of the property. Four generous bedrooms, 3 living rooms, dining, study, spacious kitchen, opening to the deck, garden, and swimming pool. Huge games room with pool table, table tennis, and X box. Three bathrooms and a powder room - of high standard. The house is well furnished throughout, with a mix of antique, mid-century and modern furniture, and in excellent condition. Other facilities include internet access, TV, DVD player and stereo, and lots of books. Everything you could expect in a generous and well cared for family home.
The house is located on a quiet private lane. A few minutes’ walk in one direction takes you to the Orakei Basin, and the walkway that encircles it (a 2.8 km walk or run that we do most days). A few minutes in the other direction takes you to a small cluster of local shops and cafes, for good coffee and bread and milk, and the local playground with Skate Park, flying fox and swings. The local shops, with great fish and fruit, are 5 minutes’ drive away. The heart of the city is only a 12 -15 minute drive – with the wonderful dining and harbour city experience that Auckland now offers. A 5-10 minute drive in the other direction from the property takes you to sandy beaches for family swimming.
Within an hour’s drive north or west of the property are vineyards, wild west coast beaches, sheltered east coast beaches, marine reserves, and forests with walking or bicycle tracks. Auckland is also a great place to base yourself if you intend to explore everything that New Zealand has to offer.

Heather's reviews
As a host (13)“We just stayed one week in Helene and Helmut's apartment in Vienna. The apartment completed a wonderful three weeks in beautiful Austria. The unit is completely up to date, centrally located, all amenities needed, and a very short walk to the shopping, public transportation, Saturday market one block away with fresh vegetables, meats etc. All you need is the tram, u-bahn ticket to enjoy all of Vienna. While Helene says it is for two, three can sleep as needed if willing to stay on the couch upstairs. As the unit is perfect, the couch is a minor inconvenience. We rate all of this a 5-star journey and stay, based on our experiences as world travelers and working on three continents!! Robert and Jill, Boston USA”
“We had been in Helmut and Helen house in Wien . The apartment was perfect, very good situation, near the monuments and museums by the subway in 10 minutes. The information touristic in very good album. All kind of recommendations, restaurants, to go to the airport very easy, by bus, the area with plenty of good things to buy, sincerely Hellen and Helmut are the best persons that I had never met, thanks you very much.”
“I had a wonderful week in the comfortable apartment of Helene and Helmut. Their apartment is a good base and very convenient to discover Vienna. Within 2 minutes you are at the metro station and the metro brings you in less than 6 minutes to the heart of Vienna (and runs in the weekends also during the night !). It is a relaxing idea that - after an evening concert - you are very quickly back home. I liked the shops (including 4 bakeries) and the market (that is daily around the corner) which are nearby as well. Shopping in this area is a pleasure. I exchanged my home for many years, but this is the first time I had a swimming pool around the corner that was recommended - because of the Jugend still - by my guidebook. The modern apartment is very well equipped and neat. It is a very good place to relax after an intense day, full of visiting museums, churches and other interesting places in Vienna. Last but not least: Helene and Helmuth are very helpful. Helene showed me after my arrival the best shops, the market and she gave me a lot of useful information about temporary exhibitions, good restaurants and - even - cycle routes. I can strongly recommend this apartment.”
“The best location to discover Vienna, underground station, many shops, restaurants, pedestrian zone, market e.t.c. in very short distance from the apartment...Helene and Helmut were very patient and helpful, everything was perfectly prepared. The apartment is fully and very comfortably equipped in 2 floors and has small terrace too.”
“We exchanged between Vienna and Bonn - and could not have done better. Four subway stops from right outside the door and you are at the entrance of the State Opera. And thus in the middle of the city. And when you relax afterwards on the terrace of this beautiful apartment overlooking the roofs of Vienna your heart fills with music. In the morning, outside the house you can fill your basket as there are the most various market stalls all around - and try Viennese cuisine at home. As the hosts had even helped us with opera and concert tickets we left with memories galore. Absolutely recommendable. K.&N.Wagner ”
“I can't describe the gratitude to the host in words. He accepted our request at the last minute and quickly agreed to give us the best memories of New Zealand! I think New Zealand's most beautiful scenery is the from the window of this house! We really enjoyed our vacation at this house and can't wait to return to Auckland! Thank you again for your generosity and I look forward to your visit to Tokyo. We will return a more warmly host. Cake Liao”

“My Family and I had an amazing time in Auckland at this very spacious, comfortable home. The location was perfect , beautiful gardens and an amazing view overlooking the Orakei Basin, close to public transport.
