About our home

The thing that captured our heart when we saw our house is the view. A 180 degree view overlooking the village and then out to sea and Rabbit Island can be seen from the open plan kitche/diner/lounge, the master bedroom and the top deck.

We have spent the last year renovating inside and out with features we particularly love being our gorgeous new kitchen and Bali inspired outdoor living.

Extensive landscaping works has given us a wonderful flat lawn, great for kids to play on, and the downstairs rooms now have a new wrap around deck to match the one above.

As we are at the end of a small cul de sac our property is very private with an open field on one side.

The layout of the house works really well for us, with the top floor having all the living area, the master bedroom and adjoining bathroom. The downstairs has two bedrooms and another bathroom.

We get sun from early morning until early evening, watch the sunrise each morning from the bedroom or over an early coffee.

We have an enviable position in the village as we are high enough to have a view, but close enough to be 'in' the village. A two minute walk down to the local village center, five minute walk to the wharf where it 'all happens' in summer, and five minutes to the water.

More about us

  1. We are a couple in our forties with two children, 12 & 10. We have lived in this beautiful part of New Zealand for just two years having moved back to New Zealand after being abroad for 5 years.

  2. Justin is originally from the UK, while Sally is from the North Island of New Zealand but we love now calling the 'Top of the South' home.

  3. We have spent the last year giving our 1990s home a contemporary make over with expansive decks being added, painted throughout and new lighting, a new kitchen and more. We still have a few things on our list but are loving our new bright, modern home.

Where is it?

Mapua is a small village in the heart of the Tasman region. In just over 30 minutes you can be on the golden sands of Kaiteriteri beach (consistently voted as one of the best beaches in the world), on your bike at the world class Kaiteriteri Mountain bike park, walking into the stunning Abel Tasman National Park or perusing the market in the small, funky city of Nelson. Drive a little further up over the Takaka hill and you are in the beautiful Golden Bay with it's long sandy beaches you can drive right up to, the worlds clearest spring water and the stunning Farewell spit.

To go with all the great outdoors, we also have multiple boutique wineries within a 10 minute drive and as the largest Hop growing region in the country, many craft brewing operations also.

Mapua itself has a beautiful old wharf which has been brought back to life with stylish retail and restaurants. Sit and enjoy a glass of wine, coffee or craft beer (we have 2 micro breweries and a coffee roastery in the village) while watching children of all ages indulge in some good old fashioned wharf jumping.

The Great Taste Trail biking track goes through Mapua, with a ferry to take you across to Rabbit Island (a protected island with a long sandy beach and easy biking trails).
