About our home

Red Door Cottage is a unique and peaceful haven in the City. It offers up to four guests spacious, stylish, comfortable accommodation. Our charming cottage is nestled in a small, private garden in a quiet, leafy street. A retreat from life's stresses, you'll find it the perfect place to relax - enjoy peace, privacy and tranquility close to the city. Local city beaches are a 20 minute drive.

Red Door's an appealing, welcoming home-away-from-home. Enjoy the comfy couches, oriental rugs and teak furniture - the sound system has a CD, IPod and USB dock. There's a DVD player & selection of DVD's. You can stay connected with Wireless/Broadband internet.
The modern kitchen has stainless steel appliances and all necessary equipment. The sparkling white bathroom has a plentiful supply of thick, fluffy towels, with separate toilet, heated towel rail, and hairdryer. The two restful bedrooms have beautifully comfortable beds, with crisp linens and many pillows.

More about us

  1. We are Jenny & John, a married couple in our early 60's. We can't believe we're this age, and we love life. We have grown children/step-children and 5 lovely grandchildren. Jenny runs our two accommodation cottages, and John having recently sold his retail business, now works for a friend project managing a housing development. We enjoy travelling when we can get away - we completed our first exchange to Vancouver Island, Canada in 2011 and we're looking forward to more exchanges, as we like to see a country from the perspective of the people.
Our second cottage in Christchurch is also available for exchange.
    Non-Simultaneous preferred.

Where is it?

Christchurch is known as New Zealand's "Garden City" - it was settled by English settlers and
has a very English ambience. Lovely trees, parks and gardens and the River Avon meanders
its way through the city - you can go Punting on the river year-round.

The cottage is walking distance to the City's amenities and shopping - close to Victoria St shopping and restaurant precinct, Christchurch, Southern Cross & St.Georges Hospitals, Hagley Park, Botanical Gardens, Christchurch Casino, the Arts Centre and the Art Gallery. Canterbury University is a 5-minute drive.

Stroll to the shops, cafes and restaurants of Merivale Village.
Visit attractions like the Antarctic Centre, Mona Vale, Orana Park, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, as well as Hagley and Russley Golf Courses. Public transport regularly passes by the end of the street if walking isn't on your list. Although a car is not necessary there's a single attached garage for use.

Wineries, whale watching and thermal pools are day-trips from Christchurch. A day-trip on the
TranzAlpine train through the Southern Alps [voted one of the world's Top 10 Train Journeys] is definitely recommended. Historic Port Lyttelton is a destination with its Saturday market, cafes and restaurants.
A day-trip to Akaroa [New Zealand's first French Settlement] on Banks Peninsula provides some
wonderful sight-seeing. Hanmer Resort and thermal pools are an hour away and in Winter, Christchurch is a day trip to several ski fields.
