About our home

The house is located at the centre of the beach front with a short, private path leading directly down on to the beach. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs [2 queen and 1 bunk room sleeping 4] and 2 bathrooms [1 en suite]. Two of the bedrooms and the living area open on to a deck with beautiful sea views and an outdoor dining table. There is a small separate apartment downstairs with a bedroom and bathroom, there is no internal access to this. The downstairs room opens on to a large courtyard. There is a double garage with storage area. The house has electric heating and fans for cooling. The entire upstairs area was renovated and re-decorated recently. The house is located down a driveway from the highway and is quite private.

More about us

We bought this house when our 2 boys were pre-schoolers and have spent many happy summers there. Now that they are in their late teens we are not using the house so much over the summer. We have not done a house swap before so are not too familiar with how this works but are very keen to find out.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Cooper's Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand. It is a golden sand beach fringed with pohutukawa trees, the iconic New Zealand tree that is covered in crimson flowers at Christmas time. The beach is very safe for swimming and is not a surf beach, although there are plenty of those within easy driving distance. The community is small and relaxed. There is a cluster of local shops including a pharmacy, butcher, cafe, convenience store, hardware merchant and liquor store at the beach [5 min. walk from the house] and the picturesque fishing village of Mangonui is 2 km south. Mangonui has a range of cafes and restaurants, an historic pub and a famous fish and chips shop. There are 2 international quality golf courses easily accessible from Cooper's Beach [Carrington Resort and Kauri Cliffs] and several local courses as well. The Bay of Islands is an hour's drive away. Deep sea fishing and diving trips are easily arranged. The closest towns offering a wider range of shops and services are Kaitaia, about 30 km north and Kerikeri, 70 km to the south. Flights from Auckland are available to both these towns.
