“Could an exchange be more perfect? We don’t think so! An incredibly beautiful home in a charming and lovely suburb of Auckland, in addition to exceptionally open and helpful house owners made our first house exchange into an experience we always will cherish. Ahead of the exchange we had regular communication on Skype and email, and we found the house owners very friendly and helpful in the planning of our forthcoming stay in their home and area. When in New Zealand, our family with 2 small children under 3 years of age, was warmly welcomed by the house owners, and they had even gone out of their way to make their home child safe by installing child protection on top of stairs and door latches where needed. The kids also enjoy playing with the house owners’ children’s old toys. We loved every minute in this pretty, spacious home with its outstanding views of Auckland harbor, Auckland city and the volcanoes around the city. The kids had fun at the great play grounds around Devonport and we all enjoyed the local beach life, as well as strolling around gorgeous Devonport. Exchange with this family is highly recommended!”

About our home
Our home is a renovated waterfront villa in a quiet and charming seaside suburb known for its quaint homes, swimming beaches, parks and walks. We are located on the harbour's edge within a two minute walking distance of local shops and restaurants. Our house has a beachy feel with a large terrace overlooking the water. The interior is contemporary, fresh and lends itself to a relaxed lifestyle.
Located on three levels, our home has two living areas and two kitchens as well as and a TV room. The kitchen/dining/living on the seaward side are open plan and open onto the terrace overlooking the sea. The sunny second kitchen/living/dining area open to a terrace and small sheltered garden. The house can potentially be divided into two apartments if required.
Sleeping arrangements consist of 2 double bedrooms and 1 smaller single bedroom. The first, or master bedroom has a king sized bed and is located on the third floor. I has an an ensuite, dressing room and small balcony. Flooded with gentle morning light it offers lovely views down the harbour.
The other two bedrooms located at the back of the house, open onto a sunny terrace and sheltered garden and have their own living/kitchen/laundry area. The larger bedroom is very spacious with a king sized bed. The smaller bedroom has a single bed with another second single bed underneath. These rooms share a bathroom however there is another bathroom available on this level
We have two garages at street level and our home is on three levels. We are happy to talk about exchanging cars if required. Please be aware that there are stairs to be negotiated.

As a host (1)More about us
-
We are a couple with two sons aged 21 and 24, both at university in Australia, and a beloved scottish terrier. I am an Australian architect and my husband is a New Zealand businessman. We have previously exchanged houses in America, Norway and France and have travelled extensively in our own country and abroad. We all love the outdoors, hiking, windsurfing and my husband is a very keen golfer. I am very interested in the local arts and crafts.

Neighbourhood
Devonport is a charming, historic seaside suburb located on a peninsular across the harbour from Auckland's CBD. Peace and quiet but only a fifteen minute ferry ride to down town Auckland means the best of both worlds.
Once home to thriving Maori settlements early Devonport's colonial life centred around the marine industry. This close connection with the sea continues today with Devonport being home to many sailing and boating clubs. The NZ Navy also calls Devonport home. Defined by its volcanic cones, pretty victorian homes and ringed by beaches, Devonport is unique in its character and is considered a jewel in Aucklands crown.
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with a cross English/Polynesian flavour. Straddling two harbours and two coasts the sea defines us. We have a vibrant waterfront and downtown area and wonderful beaches on both the east and west coasts of the city. Many small islands, (of which Waiheki Island tih its world class vineyards is most touted )are located in the Hauraki Gulf. This lovely sailing ground can be easily accessed by ferries from Auckland.
We are home to the next America's cup and have a very proud sailing history which can be witnessed by the numerous yacht races and activity on our lovely harbour.
