Our family-friendly home sits on a quiet street looking out over the south coast of the small city of Dunedin. We are only a 10 minute drive from the heart of town and within walking distance of the harbour inlet, parks and shops. The house is open plan, gets fantastic sun and has marvelous views. The house is on two levels: entry, rumpus room, laundry, garage and one bedroom on the first level, and 3 bedrooms, bathroom, open plan kitchen/ dining and living room on the second level. We are about halfway up a large hill and the back of the first floor is built into the hill, giving us a back deck and garden level with the top floor. A long balcony runs the length of the top floor with access via 3 sliding glass doors from the living room and 2 bedrooms. We have a small, easy-care garden, a veggie patch and a trampoline for the kids. Our house is well-loved and full of toys and books and play equipment.
Our house was built in the 1970, partly renovated in the late 80's and we have done some renovations since moving in about 6 years ago. The kitchen is large and well equipped, the bedrooms are small but light and comfortable, and we are hoping to renovate the bathroom before 2016. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and we have a single and bunk in the other two. We have 2 heat-pumps and fantastic log-burner that keep our house warm and toasty in the colder months.
Our home would suit a family or a couple wanting a quiet place to see the beautiful sights of New Zealand from. We are located at the base of the Dunedin Peninsula, home to albatross and penguins and a whole host of wonderful sea birds and natural wonders. There are endless tracks to walk and roam very close to home or a short drive away. Dunedin in only a 3.5 hour drive from Queenstown, home to amazing alpine skiing and beautiful lakes.
We are halfway up a hill in the lovely suburb of Waverley. Up the hill you will find a small township with a few shops and a cafe. Carry on a bit further and you will find amazing walking and biking trails to the beach or out the peninsula. Get in your car and you will be at Larnach Castle in less than 15 minutes. A short walk down the hill will lead you to the Harbour inlet, a sporting ground and a children's park. There are also walking and biking trails from here that will lead you to different beaches or along the habour mouth.
Some of the most spectacular beaches and wildlife can be accesses within minutes from this neighborhood. We highly recommend Tomahawk Beach, Tunnel Beach, MacAndrew Bay and Sandfly Bay.
The middle of Dunedin is only about a 10 minute drive away. The heart of our small city is known as the Octagon and is full of great little restaurants and bars and shops. Toward the north end of town you'll find the lovely University of Otago campus and the beautiful Botanic Gardens.
