Neighbourhood
Havelock North has long enjoyed its reputation as the "HEART OF WINE COUNTRY", Hawkes Bay. Nestled in between the Heretaunga Plains and the legendary Te Mata Peak, our village's intimate and small population lends itself to exquisite winery and dining opportunities. Filled with unique buildings dating from the late 1800s as well as parks and gardens, Havelock North has a lush feel which contrasts with the browned off pastures of late summer. The 'village' was opened up for settlement by the Provincial Government in 1860 and by the early 1900's a number of architects had left their mark with unique buildings that can still be seen. In addition, a programme of tree planting has seen the 'village' develop a distinctly lush feel that contrasts markedly with the rest of the Heretaunga Plains which are known for their long hot summers. Havelock North can appear like a green oasis against the hills and provides a pleasant respite from the crops and browned off pastures in late summer.
