About our home

We are open to all requests but would prefer 5 days minimum.

Our home in the hills is light, airy, private with fabulous views over Wellington harbour to the local mountain ranges. It is halfway down a private, steep, narrow road - see photo, and has 10 steps down to the front door). It has been extensively refurbished over the last 5 years.
Upstairs we have an open plan living/dining area and a fully equipped kitchen with an additional eating area. The decking is extensive with an all-important gas BBQ. There is an en-suite bedroom with queen-size bed, whilst the adjacent office/dressing room has a set of bunkbeds (specially configured for our grandchildren!).
Downstairs there is a large en-suite bedroom with queen sized bed and its own private fully enclosed large decking area, part of which is under cover for any rainy/cold days. It is also the most amazing spot to watch the sunrise! The garden is on a steep slope, only accessible through a gate and perhaps not suitable for very small children.

More about us

  1. We have lived in Wellington since 2005 having worked in the Middle East and Africa for many years, before settling back in the UK. Then we had a holiday in New Zealand and the rest is history!

  2. We are both retired - accountant and public health service manager and frequently travel throughout New Zealand in our motor home, enjoy holidays in the wider Pacific, and in more recent years, spend time in Europe. We can therefore be flexible with dates!

  3. Gordon enjoys playing the ukulele and flying radio-controlled aircraft and the odd game of golf, whilst Em is a keen tramper (trying to navigate around the North Island by 2023!), walker, swimmer and currently further landscaping our sloping garden!

Where is it?

Our road in Highbury, is on a hill and borders the town's green belt which boosts some excellent hill walking/biking tracks (Polehill reserve) and the Zealandia nature reserve (the world's first fully fenced urban ecosanctuary), all within a short walk. It is only a 30 minute walk to the city centre, with a regular bus-service (6 minutes walking from our house).
Wellington has a diverse range of landscapes, sitting quietly between the sea and acres of regional parks, forests and mountains with some lovely beaches and bays. It is famous for a vibrant creative culture and we are lucky to be close to all amenities, including some of New Zealand's best restaurants, cafes, theatres, gardens, museums, Sky Stadium, Weta Workshop and all in a quiet neighbourhood.
The Wairarapa wine region (well-known for its premium Pinot Noir) is just over an hour’s drive (or train ride) through scenic country. Getting here is easy enough for a day trip, with cellar doors very accessible, and some are even walking distance from one another.
