About our home

Our spacious home is located in a very pleasant suburb of Hamilton (population about 160,000) in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. It is a wonderful situation for day trips to many special places of interest. e.g. Beaches include Raglan (great for swimming and surfing) Kawhia, on the west coast and Mount Maunganui (wonderful for kids with hot sea water pools and lovely walks around and up the Mount), on the East Coast. Coromandel a peninsula on the East Coast has many great walks and scenic areas including Hot Water Beach where you can dig a hole and mix hot and cold water to your own sublime temperature - at least until the tide comes in and douses you all - lots of fun), and many others. Also day trips to thermal areas (Rotorua) and Taupo Lake (great fishing). It is 1 1/2 hour trip to Auckland New Zealands largest city. Another day trip to Waitomo Caves gives you the chance to see glowworm caves and do some black water rafting. Hamilton's Observatory (next r=to the zoo) has Public nights with illustrated lectures on our very special night sky (the biggest globular cluster, the biggest coal sack, and of course the southern cross.) and the chance to view them through our telescopes. All manned by enthusiastic volunteers. Sleepovers there art popular with the children. Hamilton has special gardens which have won world acclaim as they depict gardens from many cultures around the world. The Waikato river runs through Hamilton and you can dine on the boat as it travels up and down the river. Hamilton Lake is good for kayaking and has a greaqt playground. We also have the usual indoor rock climbing facilities and trampoline venues. For the women shopping is good with an oversupply of ladies clothing shops. There are great golf courses and many other facilities including the Te Rapa pool complex.
Hobbiton in Matamata is less than an hour away where the movie The Lord of the Rings was filmed and you can spend a day visiting the actual site as it was in the movie.
Wildlife enthusiast will enjoy a trip up Mount Maungatautari with its protected areas and native birds and bush. Nearby Te Aroha also has great walks and the Maori thermal pools.
