My home is a single storeyed solid masonry house set in one hectare (two and a half acres) of land overlooking the Bay of Islands, Tapeka Point, Russell and the Rawhiti Peninsula. It has an open plan kitchen and dining room, a separate living room with fireplace, three double bedrooms, two large bathrooms (one with bath as well as shower), a double garage, a studio, an office and a laundry. It also has a large parking area and an outdoor spa pool (jacuzzi). Every room has a view of the sea and the neighbouring farm, and the dining area, living room and master bedroom also look out over the lush back garden. An outdoor patio with fountain leads off the dining and living areas on the garden side. Patios on the other side look out over the sea. The gardens are a mixture of native NZ plants and sub-tropicals, mostly from the southern hemisphere.
I am a retired widow and have been living in Kerikeri for four years and in this house for two. I lived and worked overseas for most of my working life, including almost thirty years as an information officer for UNICEF in Paris, Geneva, Bangkok, Abidjan and New York. I developed an interest in photography and since returning to New Zealand have also taken up painting in watercolours and acrylic. I am also interested in gardening and am a member of the local U3A (University of the Third Age) and BPW (Business and Professional Women's Association).
Apart from New Zealand, my favorite country is France which I visit as often as possible.
The house is about 15 minutes' drive from the town of Kerikeri and 40 minutes from Paihia. At the end of the road, there is a small beach where one can swim and fish off the rocks. Kerikeri has two supermarkets, nice shops, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, a newly renovated cinema and a theatre, usually referred to as the Centre (for performing arts). The Bay of Islands is a popular tourist destination with its numerous islands, bays, beaches and the Kerikeri Inlet. Paihia offers many boat and bus excursions in the Bay and to the top of the North Island.
