About our home
Our much-loved holiday home, in an idyllic part of New Zealand, is available to be shared by those looking for a special location to visit.
Located to take advantage of “two worlds”:
Situated at Lake Tarawera, one of the many beautiful lakes in the Rotorua area and famous for its trout fishing and beauty. Just 15 minutes from Rotorua passing the Blue Lake, Green Lake and the famous Buried Village.
Rotorua is the “thermal wonderland” of New Zealand – a major tourist destination where you can experience geysers, hot springs, bubbling mud pools, together with many other tourist activities in and around our lakes, forests and farmlands. Google “Rotorua New Zealand” to get an insight.
Our holiday home is well equipped with everything to make your stay extremely comfortable, with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, two living areas and a large outdoor deck area. Behind the house is our special bush-clad “grotto” which runs down into a small valley, including native birds and our very own glow-worms.
Opposite the property is the beautiful Rangiuru Bay, where swimming, boating, picnicking, and walking the many trails is very popular.
The beauty of the location is the quiet and tranquil atmosphere of a small lake community, yet only 15 minutes from Rotorua where you can enjoy one of New Zealand’s leading places to visit.
Available for use is a dinghy and kayak (with life jackets in all sizes).

Steve & Jenny's reviews
As a host (17)“It was lovely to meet Jenny and Steve as they handed over their home to us for our stay. It is a fabulous home with views of the lake, mountains and bush. There is loads to do and we have not had time to o to all. We would love to return!”
“Jenny and Steve, they have became more than family members for us. Definitely We enjoyed very much our stay in their house in the lake and surroundings area. Awesome nature and fantastic people to be with. Love youuuuuu!”
“Back home in the UK and just about over our jet lag, so time to reviewSteve & Jenny's property. Firstly, when Steve and Jenny showed us round, you very quickly got the vibe that this was a family-friendly home More toys and board games than you could ever use during your stay! Our grand-kids really enjoyed the house. The house is very well equipped and satified all our needs. The location was perfect - 3 minute walk to Lake tarawera - and we even managed to use the kayak Steve and jenny had made available. In summaryy, a lovely home and a beautiful location. Paul & Angela Mcbeth”
“A lovely home in a beautiful location with lovely views. The lake is only a few minutes walk away. We really enjoyed our stay. Steve & Jenny were ideal hosts. They met us when we arrived and showed us around and how things worked. Rotorua is only half an hour away, with lots of shops, bars & restaurants. Plenty to see on the way including the Buried Village and Redwoods. Te Puia geysers & Maori village are a must & for the not so faint hearted there is Rotorua Canopy Zip Line. Fantastic, George & Yvonne”
“Steve and Jenny’s lakeside home was a wonderful place to stay. So comfortable, spacious and well equipped; such a lot of outdoor space in which to relax and enjoy the super weather; magnificent views from every window, a short walk to Stoney Park Reserve to walk/swim/kayak, easy access to other lakes in the vicinity and the many attractions in the Rotorua region – the list could go on! The grotto in the garden, pole house and glow worms were such a delight – I just wanted my young grandsons to be there with me to enjoy them as much as I did. Thank you so much Steve and Jenny for allowing us to experience a few days in your ‘special place’. ”
“Our family stayed at Steve and Jenny's holiday home for 5 nights and we absolutely loved our stay here. Located in a quiet location with scenic views of the lake and surrounds, this property is very clean and comfortable. There's ample space to explore and plenty of activities to keep the kids happy. Two living spaces were great so the kids had their own area to chill or play. This house had everything we needed and more. Steve and Jenny met us on arrival and were extremely hospitable, lovely, welcoming. Highly recommend this awesome property! ”
“We had a great week in Steve and Jenny's beautiful lakeside house. It was a treat! Steve and Jenny were marvellous guests encouraging us to take advantage of the marvellous range of facilities they have (including a huge amount of kids' activities and the best treehouse I've ever come across). The house is spacious, extremely well maintained and takes great advantage of the outdoors with lots of decking and access outside. We had a great time in the lakes and enjoying Rotorua close by. Many thanks! ”
“Steve and Jenny were there to meet us and show us around. We were a party of 5 adults and the property was more than adequate for this number of people and exceeded our expectations. Steve and Jenny were very generous and thoughtful hosts. As we arrived late evening they had a meal for us and left basic supplies for our first day. really convenient when travelling from overseas. There was also plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils and a dishwasher. A great location within minutes of the lake and Steve and Jenny left their kayak and dinghy for us plus the use of a vehicle to tow the dinghy to the lake as our hire car did not have a tow bar (one of the many kind offers that made staying at this property so wonderful). Property was on a quiet road, so little noise, very generous sized balconies where we could relax, enjoy a wine and take in the scenery of the lake and surrounding countryside. There were also glowworms in the rainforest area at the back of their garden. An unexpected bonus was when we left Steve and Jenny did not expect or charge for cleaning or laundering, they just asked it be left reasonably clean and tidy. The best home swap we have done and would highly recommend the hosts and property. ”
“Thank you Jenny and Steve, what can I say. You opened up your wonderful family bach for us to enjoy on our trip around NZ. Your house was a breath of fresh air to us after a week of staying in a more generic AirBNB. They ran in, toys, dolls, lego, wetsuits and a kayak not to mention a play house and a rope swing in the woods. Just heaven for the children and adults alike. The local area is just full of things to do. We loved the Buried Village locally and it really brought it hope to us the incredible force of nature that occurred in the area when the local volcano erupted. Rotorua is full of great things to do. We loved Te Puia and mountain biking in the Redwoods (you can hire bikes really easily). We loved the local park and walking around the lake enjoying the peace and tranquillity. Steve and Jenny were also so kind and stayed late to let us in and show us around which was so kind of them. We really loved this house and can't recommend it or the area highly enough. Thank you both so much! ”
“We had a great experience at Steve & Jenny's Lake Tarawera home. It was clean and functional and comfortable. The location was optimal for visiting Rotorua and the surrounding area. Communicating with our hosts was a breeze. Highly recommended.”
“We loved our 5 nights at Steve and Jenny's lake home. They met us there and made us feel completely welcome. The home is in a great location just outside of Rotorua, has breathtaking views over the lake, is well equipped for a family and is simply a very comfortable place to spend time. The communication before, during and after our stay was quick and helpful. Overall, we were delighted.”
“Thank you Steve and Jenny for a wonderful stay at your beautiful home in Tarawera, we had a truly wonderful time going for swims kayaking and visiting the area and nearby Rotorua, we have left with lots of wonderful memories. Regards Karen”
“I very much enjoyed staying here, overlooking Lake Tarawera made it very special. Steve and Jenny gave me a very warm welcome. It's a comfortable home ideal for couples and especially caters for families. They gave me use of their canoe, which I used, launching across the road at Stoney Point, it's also great for swimming there. It's convenient for Rotorua, where there is so much to do and see. Thank you for my stay, I highly recommend this home. ”
“We loved Steve and Jenny's lakeside house and its sensational views of Lake Tarawera. It is in a great location for exploring the sights and activities in and around Rotorua. The house was very spacious and comfortable and has a huge deck area for outdoor living (weather permitting!). Unfortunately we could only stay for 2 nights and would love to have stayed longer in this beautiful area.”
“Our family of 4 had an amazing week at Steve and Jenny's beautiful home at Lake Tarawera. The location was perfect - a short walk to the lake which, even in April, was a great temperature for swimming. We fully utilized the Kayak which was provided with the house and the kids loved exploring the rain forest grotto at the back of the house. The house was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. Rotorua was a short drive away and it was actually really nice to stay away from the hustle and bustle of this main tourist centre. Waking up every morning to the peace and quiet and watching the mist rise over the lake was just magical. Thank you Steve and Jenny this was our best swap yet! ”
“Well now.....fabulous place...fabulous hosts..................and well.........it was like opening the best Christmas present every day whilst staying there. There are so many, many things to do at this lovely home. We were so excited all the time with so much great stuff to do. They even have a tree house in their bush garden, they have kayaks and bikes and games, games, games galore. The beach is just a few minutes away and it is safe with a patrol boat taking care of the kayaks and boats out there. So as you can see....I recommend this super home and wonderful hosts. Love Pam”
