“We have recently enjoyed a wonderful exchange with Jill and Grant. Their home is lovely and far enough away from the city of Wellington to enjoy the local village lifestyle. We discovered a wonderful French Cafe "Le Tartine" close by and started our day there every morning. We enjoyed discovering Wellington but most days we took a drive to a different country town. JIll and Grant's welcoming hospitality in their beautiful home and garden was so appreciated, we thoroughly enjoyed our swap and their friendship.”

Jillian's reviews
As a host (13)“IF YOU WANT AN EXCHANGE IN NEW ZEALAND THIS IS THE ONE TO HAVE. JILL AND GRANT WENT OUT OF THERE WAY TO MAKE US FEEL AT HOME. THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE WITH EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT. THE LOCATION IS EXCELLENT, IN A QUIET, WELL SERVICED NEIGHBOUR HOOD, BUT ONLY A FERRY RIDE AWAY FROM DOWNTOWN WELLINGTON. WE WOULD LOVE TO STAY HERE AGAIN.”
“Jill and Grant generously allowed us the use of their beautiful home during their holidays in California, so this was a non-simultaneous exchange. Communication with them was fluid and easy before, during and after our visit, and we were extremely comfortable in their spacious, well-appointed home, which was an excellent base to explore the north island. We hope to be able to reciprocate their great hospitality soon. ”
“We spent a memorable holiday over Easter in Jill and Grant's house by the bay in Wellington. The communication with them was very easy and friendly from start to end. Their big house is beautiful and filled with sunlight. Looking out from top level rooms in the morning was very relaxing. We excited to see big fish, snapper and karawai be caught at the pier near the house. We have had a wonderful holiday in Wellington. An amazing city, beautiful bays, lakes and mountains. Thanks Jill and Grant make our first HomeforExchange experience so perfect.”
“We spend a fantastic stay in Wellington thanks to Jillian & Grant! We enjoyed a large, very well equipped and connected house, with a high level of comfort and everything we need to rest and spend good times before and after our visits. Eastbourne is a quiet and very nice place in Wellington bay, perfect location and close to Wellington city center by car or bus. We were welcomed by Jillian and Grant with a lot of smiles and attentions. We felt at home instantly. Even the French flag was floating in the garden ;-) We definitely recommend to choose Jillian and Grant' house during your next visit in New-Zealand.
Martine”
“Jillian and Grant stayed in our apartment in July 2013. They took good care of our home as it was their own. What a sweet surprise to come home to fine thank-you-gifts from New Zealand, so thoughtful. I can give Jill and Grant my best recommendations, they are very lovely people.”
“A quick ferry trip took us across the harbour to Wellington & it's interesting waterfront. There was great surf at Durbin's Gate by Eastbourne, & a lovely walk along the coast. We also crossed the Rimutakas & visited the stunning Pinnacles in Putangarua. A good spot for a holiday.”
“Because our seasons are opposite from each other I did an hospitality exchange with Jill and Grant in Wellington, New Zealand. Their hospitality was great and they made me feel very welcome. The house is spacious and beautifully decorated, although Jill e-mailed me later that she made some changes upstairs, but I am sure it’s equally beautiful. We did some great walks together and had BBQ’s in the garden in the evening. I hope to see them again in the near future for another exchange!”
“We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks stay in Jill and Grant's beautiful home and garden in New Zealand. Everything was thoughtfully prepared for us so that we could feel comfortably at home. The home is very close to the beach, tennis courts, bike path and wonderful forest walks (the highlight for us). Local shops and cafés are in walking distance or you can take the bus or a ferry (recommended) into the city of Wellington for a larger choice of restaurants, shops, museums and gardens.”
“We had a wonderful time in Eastbourne. Jill and Grant had been so accommodating with our request for dates. We arrived to a lovely lasagne and bottle of wine and as requested made ourselves at home. This location is perfect for a relaxing stay within easy distance from Wellington. Sightseeing mixed with quiet days walking along the shore was exactly what we needed to recover from jet lag. Local shops, cafes, and a ferry into Wellington made it an ideal exchange location and Jill’s helpful information pack as well as email contact meant we enjoyed our time there. Thank you Jill and Grant. I hope you enjoy your time in our home as much as we enjoyed this. ”
“This is our second exchange at Jill and Grants home. Such a joy to have fabulous facilities, and a location where great walking tracks abound. A great way to travel into Wellington City is taking the East/West Ferry from Days Wharf into the city. If you hire a car, Petone is the nearest town, a good location for food shopping, plus visiting a lovely small cinema called the Lighthouse. They have a good cafe atmosphere here and a range of films which have just been released. As each cinema is small, but with very comfortable seating we would suggest you make a booking beforehand. A wonderful exchange, we thoroughly recommend this. Alison & Mark Walters”
“Fantastic location, with beautiful walks and bike riding - our walks included strolling to the shops for coffee and walking the well maintained paths of the nearby hills. The walking paths offer great views across the harbour to Wellington. We had the use of Grant and Jill\'s bikes and with bike paths close by explored the harbour coast and local area. There is also a bus stop within 50 metre with very frequent service to Lower Hutt and Wellington. There is a ferry services to Wellington close by. Jill and Grant were very generous hosts and it was a bonus to catch up with them again. They picked us from the airport and gave us a quick tour of Wellington city and the local area. Their beautiful home and garden ( including veggie garden) were a joy to spend time in. They were generous in lending us their car to travel around in.”
More about us
-
We are both retired New Zealanders (Grant worked for Shell and Jill was a pharmacist) We have enjoyed wonderful exchanges in Austria, Australia, Holland, England, Denmark, New Zealand, Greece, Czech Republic, Spain and France. We would take great care of your home and are happy to look after your pets etc. One time we house sat in London and cared for a cat, dog, chickens, bees and the garden so we are quite adaptable! We don't have any pets so you wouldn't have any extra responsibilities.
Our 3 adult children and seven grandchildren live in USA, Australia and Norway so we have a great incentive to travel. The dates for an exchange can be flexible (we often we go touring in our caravan around NZ) and non-simultaneous is fine. We love travel and enjoy tennis, hiking, cycling and playing golf at our club, Royal Wellington.

Neighbourhood
We live in Eastbourne which is a 30 minute car trip or a 20 minute ferry trip to Wellington. The city offers museums, restaurants and theatres etc. Eastbourne is a popular seaside resort and our home is about a 20 minutes walk to the local village and cafes. There are plenty of out door attractions, either tennis, golf, swimming, fishing, hiking into the hills or biking around the coastal trail. There are several golf courses within a 30 minute drive. Two vibrant towns Greytown and Martinborough are worth a visit if you are interested in visiting wineries, cafes and restaurants. The towns are about 1.25 hours drive from Eastbourne. Or you could relax in our garden with a glass of wine.
Recently a survey done by Deutsche Bank ranked Wellington as the top city in the world for 2017. We must be improving as it was 6th out of 10 for Rough Guide's top city destinations in 2015. Other accolates include it in National Geographic's top six food cities 2017 and The British Daily Telegraph's second cleanest capital 2017. However we are not proud of being the windiest city in 2015!
Wellington is the home of Peter Jackson and The Weta Workshop who have produced movies such as Lord of The Rings. Consequently Wellington has several wonderful exhibitions. http://www.gallipoli.tepapa.govt.nz/about
