About our home

This 1920s house has been lovingly restored so that it retains its character features, whilst ensuring that it is light and modern. The renovations have been architecturally designed with a focus on detail and a very high standard finish.

The house has polished native timber floors throughout, with carpeted bedrooms. The master bedroom leads out to a balcony for the morning sun, with the open plan living area catching all of the afternoon and evening sun. Bifold doors lead to a timber deck and a native well-established garden.

The kitchen is new, with Bosch oven, gas hobs, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. The drawers are all soft close.

The tiled bathroom is also new, with a bath and separate rainhead shower.

The house is has central heating/air conditioning.

We are three houses away from the beach (you can see the beach from the front balcony) and less than 2 minutes walk away from Jackson Street, the hub of Petone with boutique shops and restaurants.

More about us

  1. We love our house. We have spent many, many hours doing it up, and still walk in the door every day and appreciate what all that hard work has achieved. We take care of our house, and we would apply the same principles when staying anywhere else.

We are both professionals - Iris is a lawyer specialising in health law, and Mike is an architectural designer. We have two beautiful little boys, Thomas, who is two and a half, and Jack, who is 3 months old.

We lived in the UK for seven years, and travelled extensively during that time throughout Europe, Russia, China, South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Since returning to live in New Zealand, we have tended to travel closer to home, mainly Australia and South East Asia.

Where is it?

Petone was the first European settlement in the Wellington region and retains many historical buildings and landmarks. Accordingly, the area has a lot of character.

Petone is defined by the beach, and Jackson Street, its centre, with boutique shops and many restaurants and cafes.

There are also large retailers at the other end of Petone, including a supermarket etc.

It is only a few minutes from Petone to Hutt City, which has a large shopping mall, and 10 minutes drive to the centre of Wellington.

Petone is a popular place to live for professionals, young families and senior citizens.
