The Motueka house is on the edge of a tidal estuary, with swimming/boating available for two hours before and after high tide. A shared walkway/cycleway runs in front of the house (at a lower level, so doesn't intrude on privacy). The cycle network is extensive, running to Nelson and also to the beach of Kaiteriteri, often regarded as one of the best beaches in New Zealand.
We have an old cat, Billy, with whom you may have to share the house. He requires little care except for the occasional pat.
The house has two bedrooms, each with a double bed, although there is also a fold down bed in the lounge.
We can make a car available.
We also have a small house in Nelson, which could be made available as part of the exchange. The house in Nelson is a few minutes drive, or a 20 minute walk, from the centre of town. It has just one bedroom with double bed, but there is a foldout double bed in the lounge. In Nelson there's a host of cafes, restaurants and galleries as well as a swimming pool, beach, and extensive walking and biking trails.
We are a couple in our sixties with strong sporting interests, so a range of bikes and kayaks is available for use.
Peter is a retired editor/journalist. Jean still works as a town planner.
The house is on the coast in the township of Motueka, 45 minutes drive from the tourist centre of Nelson.
Motueka is a small town, with supermarkets and movie theatres as well as craft galleries and many tourist activities. It's on the coast, close to national park activities.
Nelson has one of the busiest airports in New Zealand and access to the region is simple.
The region is the home of several national parks, taking in coastal and mountain regions (including some Lord of the Rings filming sites).
