About our home

Our home is easy to live in, with the main access from the deck round 2 sides and a convenient lay-out from the open-plan kitchen diner to the living area and 3 good sized bedrooms. The bathroom has a bath and seperate shower and there is a seperate toilet. We have one double bed, one single, a set of bunks and a cot. The garden surrounds the house and is landscaped with raised beds and lawns (its a 500 square meter section. It is fully enclosed by a 1.2m high fence, backs onto a brook and is lined with trees giving us alot of privacy. It's fabuluous on hot sunny days (there are alot in Nelson) to be relaxing in the shade of the trees or BBQing on the deck on summer evenings. The drive from the road ends in a turning area and large garage.

More about us

  1. We have three small children, William (4) Isobel (2) and Zachary (11 months) and have lived in Nelson for 2 years. We previously lived in Auckland for 1 year and have not regretted the change in lifestyle we made in leaving the city with a young family. Despite having had a great time here in New Zealand and a fantastic quality of life, we would love to see more of our parents and relatives back home in England so are looking for a house swap for one year to keep our options open. Our house would suit a family that wanted to try out living in New Zealand but without burning all the bridges (by selling up). Nelson is a great spot for those who want to take the back seat for a while with everything easy to access and lovely weather. As a family we love going for bike rides along the dedicated cycle paths, mountain biking, playing at the beach or the park, swimming and hiking. We also enjoy socialising with other families and having BBQs in the garden or relaxing in the cafes. NZ cafes cater well for families with children often having play areas and high chairs. I am a water engineer working for the council and Becky is a civil servant (although she's been a full time mum for several years now).

Where is it?

Nelson is a great place to sample the delights of living in New Zealand. Nelson City (pop 40,000)has the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand (it hardly ever rains)and is a popular destination for tourists. Our home is situated in a quiet residential suburb, 10 mins drive to Nelson City centre with all major shops and amenities and 5 mins to Stoke for more local supermarkets and shops. There is a small but busy airport 5 minutes away and also a fantastic, child friendly, large white sandy beach 10 mins away at Tahuna. Nelson is surrounded by hills with great walks and mountain biking, it is 1 hour to a small ski field open winter only and about the same to the Abel Tasman National Park, with it's stunning coastal paradise beaches and nature reserve. Nelson is known for it's abundance of arts and crafts, cafes, vineyards, and its very popular saturday market of locally produced foods and arts/crafts.
