I have a big house on the hill overlooking the sea, the airport, the suburb of Stoke with views onto the distant Mountain Ranges with Mt Arthur as the most prominent peak. The house has four bedrooms and is my primary home. The house is two storied and the downstairs part of the house is the part which I would normally consider for exchange and hence is available whether I am here or I am away. This area has a main bedroom (queen sized bed); a lounge with a fold out bed sofa; a laundry/kitchenette and a bathroom (not en suite). The house is heated by heat pumps in winter and is cooled by the local air in summer.
Shopping is available in either Nelson (a great selection of boutique shops and cafes etc) or in Richmond (mall shopping) both only 5-10 minutes drive away - supermarkets closer.
I have a lovely lady who helps keep the house clean who comes in once a fortnight.
The house has a double garage and off road space for two cars to park. I could make a car available if required.
I am Martin - now in my early sixties and after having had an exciting life to date I have retired back to New Zealand (try to make sure life remains exciting) after working for many years in Africa working in the mining industry - mainly diamond mining. Although I have a love for my home country my connection with Africa is strong and I return to Africa quite regularly. Photography is one of my hobbies and this combines well with the extensive travelling I do. I also have a strong interest in genealogy and love the 'detective' work in tracing family back to bygone days. I also like meeting interesting people.
I have been considering house swapping for a while but have not yet done any so am new to the idea - but I would like to share my house with others and would like to experience the same in others houses in the many parts of the world I have not yet seen.
Nelson is one of New Zealands gems. Every year it comes out as one of the sunniest towns in New Zealand and although New Zealand has a maritime climate Nelson has one of the best climates in the country - never too cold in winter and never too hot in summer. Nelson is primarily a summer destination. Tahunanui beach is a popular local holiday destination; Rabbit Island beaches are excellent to go and enjoy a late afternoon barbeque and the well known Kaiteriteri beach is not too far away. Nelson has numerous cycle (including mountain bike) tracks and also numerous walks of both short and long duration, ranging from an easy stroll to quite strenuous. The Abel Tasman Park and the Nelson Lakes National Park are reasonably close with picturesque drives to both. Fishing is pretty popular as well. In winter - the Rainbow skifield and Mt Robert skifield are within range from Nelson. Nelson is the centre for a lot of artists and painters and also has a few wineries and day visits to these are a must. A 'not so little' town with lots going for it.
