About our home

Both our homes are comfortable, clean, spacious and fully double glazed.

One has four bathrooms and three en suites and the other has three (+ a fourth toilet).

Both venues have amazing sea views and the average sunshine level in Nelson is 2,500 hours per year.

As the winter approaches things cool down but there's a log fire in both houses with plenty of fuel in the sheds. July and August (mid-winter) may be akin to the English summer with temperatures reaching up to 20º (centigrade not fahrenheit) between around 11am and 3pm. But it can be cold in the morning and the evening.

Both houses get all day sunshine so it warms up swiftly. We are open to an arrangement whereby you might choose to come for the summer of 2016.

At the moment one house will definitely be free from 18 June.

We will be looking for reciprocal accommodation from late July thru' part or all of August 2015 (this would be fully negotiable and may just work out better for you over Christmas or early in 2016).

More about us

  1. We are a semi-retired couple but highly active. One of us comes from Denmark and the other from UK. We run an annual summer school of music in the region every January.

There are six grandchildren scattered between here and New York. Three of them will be in Cologne to attend a wedding in April 2015.

One of us will be escaping to Europe (starting in London for a three day stay in the capital that is to say from 25 - 28 June 2015 before flying directly to Ireland) to take part in a musical tour. The other will arrive in July.

Where is it?

We are lucky to be living in two relatively safe areas of the world. Folk are user friendly and most helpful and we can recommend many venues for dining out. At the house in Golden Bay you could walk to 4 or 5 restaurants with total ease. You could walk to our Nelson home as well but it is a 7 minute drive - much longer on foot!

Both our permanent homes are ideally located as a tourist base (with mountains in the background) and the City of Nelson with its long established cathedral at the end of Trafalgar Street boasts shops, a movie theatre (multi-screens), a Grand Theatre Royal, a museum and ample supermarkets.

The house in Golden Bay is the closest gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. There's a supermarket and cinema in Takaka which is 10 kilometres away and a 10 minute drive from the house. Rush hour is almost non-existent from either home. There are many books and some serious reading material in both locations and if you don't enjoy too much TV we do have CDs and DVDs which are always in residence!
