About our home

Our home is very comfortable, clean, and inviting. There is a compact kitchen with adjoining dining room and lounge area, all with spectacular views over the Okere Arm of Lake Rotoiti. The lounge leads out into a sunroom where we have morning coffees and enjoy the winter sun. There are 2 double bedrooms, one with king size bed and one with queen size bed. The master has a walk-in wardrobe and easy access to the bathroom which has a shower, toilet and wash basin. A third bedroom is accessible through the second bedroom, a sunny room ideal for the kids with a day bed and trundle bed that make up into two single beds. There is a flat screen t.v. In the lounge with satellite tv and plenty of reading material and DVDs for those inside days.
Outside there is a concrete patio and a wooden deck over the lake. This is a great space for dining. There is plenty of seating and two barbeque areas, one on the garden side of the house where there is a covered patio. Locals, of the feathered variety visit regularly, both water birds and native songbirds who enjoy the summer garden as much as we do.
There are kayaks and a dinghy that you are welcome to use and plenty of lifejackets in a range of sizes.

Jenny And Malcolm's reviews

More about us

  1. We are a married couple, Malcolm is a retired roading consultant who has worked extensively in both Australia and New Zealand and Jenny is a retired, primary school principal.
While we don't have children of our own, we welcome young guests and know how much the children who have stayed here have enjoyed the environment.

We have travelled quite extensively throughout Australia and have also spent time in Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland, Slovenia and Croatia. We enjoyed the experience of living for a year in Ontario, Canada where Jenny had a teaching exchange in 2005. We returned there in 2010 and 2014, revisiting friends and familiar places and discovering new wonders.

We both enjoy visiting new places, meeting new people and having new experiences.

  2. We have recently purchased a second home in the Loire Valley in France that we would also consider exchanging for a simultaneous exchange elsewhere in Europe.

  3. We love travel and exploring new places, especially visiting places that have interesting historic backgrounds.

Where is it?

The community at Okere Falls has a mixture of permanent residents and holiday makers. The lake is very popular with holiday makers over summer and adventure tourists all year round as the Okere Falls (walking distance from the house) attract those wishing to try out the highest white water rafting experience in the Southern Hemisphere. Also within walking distance is the Okere Falls store where all the essentials can be purchased along with gourmet products and the best cappuccinos and muffins anywhere around.
The house is ideally suited to explore the central region of the North Island as it is only 20 minutes from Rotorua (New Zealand's thermal wonderland) and is under an hour to Tauranga and Mt Maunganui or Whakatane and Ohope (all with beautiful white sand beaches. Lake Taupo is also only an hour away and the spectacular Waitomo Caves are about a 90 minute drive.
There are hot pools across the lake (only accessible by boat) and there are local cruises that can be booked to take you there or out onto the lake. There are many other beautiful lakes nearby and White Island, an active volcano, is a must see for visitors.
