Built by The Right Honourable Walter Woods Johnston, Member of Parliament, in 1896, as his country home, Highden Manor Estate is New Zealand's fourth largest home. This is the Manawatu region's landmark property, and an unforgettable slice of New Zealand history. Situated on 36 acres, comprising two formal rose gardens--front and rear, park-like grounds with beautiful specimen trees, native forest, and paddocks. The buildings fit together neatly inside the wind-break tree line.
In 2010 The New Zealand Historic Places Trust listed Highden Manor Estate as a Category 1 registered historic property, and secured its' place in the annals of New Zealand history for the future.
Renovated by the current owners to a very high standard, in 2009, The Manor and other out-buildings offer an extremely private, secluded, and tranquil experience for residents.
