A great place to spend Christmas in the sun. The house is a roomy, sunny and comfortable traditional New Zealand weatherboard three bedroom home. There is a large lounge area with an adjacent family room and a dining area with hatch access into the kitchen. The three bedrooms occupy one wing of the house with access onto the long gallery. The house is surrounded by garden which includes two barbecue areas. There is easy indoor/outdoor flow. In two of the bedrooms there are queen-sized beds and in the third two single beds. There is a small office area off the family room that has a broadband internet connection. The house offers comfortable easy living.
We are a recently retired academic married couple. Our three daughters all live in England which makes a trip to England in time for Christmas particularly attractive. We enjoy walking, choral singing and we are keen theatre and opera enthusiasts. We plan to spend up to six months away from New Zealand but we are flexible. We are open to the option of a car exchange. Our car is a 2006 Toyota Corolla.
The house is situated in a small quiet cul de sac in the suburb of Hokowhitu which lies to the south of the city. Within easy walking distance of our home are Centennial Lagoon, Victoria Park Esplanade, the Manawatu River and a small shopping centre. A walk into the centre of the city takes about 20 minutes. The city is small by British standards but has all the facilities expected of city life. Palmerston North is surrounded by rural and bush areas and it is about two hours by car from Wellington, the capital city. It is also within about two hours driving distance of Hawke's Bay, a major wine producing area of New Zealand, and the Tongariro National Park which has ski slopes open during winter. We are fifteen minutes from the airport giving easy access to all regions within New Zealand and to Australia and the Pacific Islands. The city is also on the main trunk line that connects Wellington to Auckland.
