About our home

Our brick home is 15 years old and is in immaculate condition. Please note that although we have listed two bedrooms there are actually three but one is being used as a study. We can however put a portable cot in there if required. We have done this before and it works well. Our house has a lovely garden (currently full of yummy vegetables) and a double garage. It is approximately two and half hours drive north from our capital city of Wellington. The sea is only a five minute drive away and we are a 10 minute walk to the beautiful spot of Virginia Lake and Funky Duck Cafe. Wanganui is a great place to view Mt Taranaki, Mt Ruapehu, Tasman Sea. Only an hour and a half to skiing in Ohakune and a two hour drive to New Plymouth. Take a cruise on the Waimarie river boat, ride the elevator up to Durie Hill where there's a great lookout. The only elevator in the Southern Hemisphere inside a cliff! If you arrive in January then experience 10 days of Opera held in various locations around the city.

Caroline's Boastshed Bar and Restaurant, The Red Lion Bar and Restaurant
Cozy cafés
Too many to name them all but a few of our favourites are Ambrosia, Mischief, Funky Duck, Yellow House.

Victoria Avenue has boutiques, gift shops etc.
Bit of culture
Whanganui Museum is a MUST. Also the Whanganui Glass works. See the artists making gorgeous vases, bowls etc. Also visit the Sarjeant Art Gallery.
Walks in the park
Whanganui is a WALKING city. There are so many lovely walks available along the riverside, around Virginia Lake, Bushy Park to mention just a few.
Spot of exercise
If you are seriously into exercise then walk or run up the 176 steps to the Durie Hill lookout. On a clear day you can see Mt Ruapehu and Mt Taranaki, also the Tasman Sea and the winding Whanganui River.
Day tripping
There are many options for day trips from Whanganui. Take the River Road up to Pipiriki where you will see wonderful scenery along the way while following the Whanganui River and once at Pipiriki take a speed boat trip on the river or you can kayak down the river. If you love to ski we are only an hour and a half from Mt Ruapehu.
